I think they got half a million after the event, but they didn't really know the true costs.

It's quite common for professionals such as accountants and solicitors to carry out work for more than one client in a day. In order to bill the clients fairly a diary of time spent is kept. It is then charged to the clients at the rate agreed for that particular person.

In a firms internal accounts wages are often split in a similar manner between projects. DCI Wall's time will be recorded then allocated to whatever cases she's worked on during that period of time.

If this last lead fizzles out, or can't be taken any further, I expect the active investigation will come to an end. At least if anything potentially new and relevant turns up (whether directly related to Madeleine or to any of the reported sexual assaults, past or unfortunately perhaps future), they'll have a database to check against.

Given The Met have no authority in Portugal* I often wonder just where and what these leads are?
