They watched the interviews.

There is no point in pretending they have authority in the case.

They don't.

I havent mentioned the word authority so dont pretend I did...they have the power to investigate....a meember of the public does not

no its fact..

The Police Complaints Authority said it would supervise the investigation following a complaint from the victim's father, John Ward.

The inquiry by Lincolnshire Police will focus on the investigation carried out by officers from the Metropolitan Police, in Kenya, in 1989.

They have no power in Portugal.

All they are doing effectively is reading files and have listened to interviews leading nowhere.

The case remains unsolved.

They have the power to have witnesse interviewed and can draw up questions to be put to them...your claim of no power is therefore wrong

Wrong.

They can request.

They can sit in interviews, and that is the end of it.

The Police Complaints Authority said it would supervise the investigation following a complaint from the victim's father, John Ward.
The inquiry by Lincolnshire Police will focus on the investigation carried out by officers from the Metropolitan Police, in Kenya, in 1989.
According to newspaper reports, Mr Ward - who has visited Kenya an estimated 100 times pursuing his own investigations - believes the officers did not conduct a thorough enough inquiry.

John Ward complained about the Scotland Yard investigation
"I think the Scotland Yard inquiry was flawed," the Sunday Telegraph reported him as saying.
"We discovered a lot of evidence in the course of our investigation that was available to them if they had looked for it."

The debrief tells us that the FCO and the British police abandoned their usual stance and reacted in an unprecedented and hasty manner to the McCann case.

I would have expected both bodies to react by saying it was early days, the child could be found at any moment, they were monitoring the situation, Consular staff were supporting the family, etc., etc.

What the debrief doesn't tell us why they reacted as they did. In my opinion neither the McCann's nor the media had the power or influence to elicit this unusual response.

Caveat added

as I said the investigation was due to one complaint from the girls father...that is hardly justification for your description of the investigation as a pigs ear IMO

SY have stated that neither the McCanns nor their friends are suspects or persons of interest.   Therefore - along with everyone  else who has publicly 'supported' the McCanns - they have to be constantly sneered at and vilified for holding that view IMO.

Inexplicable logic IMO.
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

An opinion was given as you have given an opinion of the original investigation in the McCann case.

You do not know all the details of this case.

And therefore there cannot be justification in referring to the police case as a pigs ear

Can you see where it says why they were called in? who would have made such a decision?

....and how have you described the original investigation on multiple occasions ?
