....and how have you described the original investigation on multiple occasions ?

We have a lot more information re the original investigation...
One senior Portuguese described it as how an investigation should not be carried out

I think you are being extremely hypocritical.

You have given your opinion on the original investigation numerous times, yet you don't like others criticizing SY.

Criticism must come with valid reasons...this present criticism is based on very little information and therefore it's impossible to reach a valid conclusion

Can you see where it says why they were called in? who would have made such a decision?

Leicester police heard about it on the news on 4th. They were also contacted by Strathclyde police because a relative of the McCanns had asked them what UK police assistance could be provided.

The simple answer to that was none. Family support was the job of the FCO and police assistance was only provided if requested by the investigating force within whose jurisdiction the incident had occurred.

'Pressure' from the UK to get involved is mentioned (page 17) but just what is meant isn't clear. One inquiry from a relative can't be described as pressure, surely? Whatever this pressure consisted of and wherever it originated it succeeded in galvanising Leicester police to take unprecedented action on 4th May.

They didn't know what crime had been committed, and whatever their opinion on other police forces was there was no precedent and no legal basis for them to interfere.

There was no precedent because it was a relatively unique situation. When maddie was not found that night it was relatively certain something serious had happened and highly probable a serius crime had been committed......we have discussed this before and im sure you are aware the UK police went down all the right channels to offer assistance and there offer was accepted...inteference is a deliberately emotive word...all my opinion

Relative to what? The 900 or so other crimes committed against UK citizens abroad in 2007? They included murder, rape and abduction but they didn't get the same response.

I don't know what 'the right channels' are. The FCO contacted someone and the PJ asked for FLO's as a result. As it had rarely or never been done before we don't know if that was the right way to do it or not.

Undue levels of contact with the family by MP's, ministers and senior police officers along with media comment by them led to the officers on the ground in Portugal being seen in Portugal as representing the interests of the family rather than the interests of justice. (page 42)

From a Portuguese perspective there was certainly interference in my opinion.

Anyone who hasn't read Amaral's book is ignoring a huge amount of evidence IMO.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.
