The change of heart followed on from The Mccanns being made Arguidos, returning home and then just two days before Paulo Reis said that, the Martin Smith statement about the man coming down the plane steps, from the way he carried the little one, being like Smithman.

That is pretty persuasive stuff, and now The Mccanns are freed from the Arguido status and Martin Smith has publicly declaired that Smithman wasn't Gerry I wonder how Paulo feels now?

Have you missed the part were Martin Smith said he hadn’t changed his mind?

do we have a direct quote or are you relying on hearsay...the actual wording of what he said would be quite important

Isn't it duplicitous to specifically name the man seen & then help produce an efit to implicate another (possibly innocent) person?

I'm finding this thread one of the most interesting threads I've started, I just keep wanting to go back to it.  Will it uncover a vital clue?
If he has stopped writing about the case the clue has to be within a fairly narrow time frame.

I kept searching for his articles and find if he did stop temporarily he must have resumed at some stage  for there are articles right up to the 10 year anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance.

He doesn't appear to be that good at arithmetic!

Almost ten years after...
Soon, it will be 10 years after the day I drove my Honda CB 500 from Lisbon to Algarve and, in a couple of hours, arrived at Praia da Luz. There, I saw Gerry and Kate McCann, during a Press conference and took some pictures. One thing that made me curious was the elegant way they dressed – pink and blue shirts, a fashion style they would repeat many times in the following months.
My first impression, looking at Kate McCann (and I was very close, less than 2 meters...) was of a mother in deep suffering, missing a child that vanished just two weeks before. I wrote a comment about that in a online forum of a British newspaper (can't remember which one, but may be it was “The Sun”...) and I was almost lynched."

Really it will be 11 years after soon.  https://gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.co.nz/

None this year yet.   2012-2016 only 1 article.

Very interesting once again is the article Paulo wrote about in 2014 - it was about 2 topics we have covered in the last week Len Port and the stats of Missing Children.

Now, Len Port is a journalist. Before, he was the contact of a public relations company. Tomorrow? Who knows...

Snip
That means there is still 7 missing children disappeared in 2006, but who they are? No names, no images?

"Sadly, reported cases of missing children have increased since the SOS phone line was created in 1988."

But Instituto de Apoio à Criança tells us not anymore how many children is missing in Portugal, because there is new organization for this: Portuguese Association for Missing Children and leader of this organization is Paulo Pereira Cristovao:.
HEAD of Portugal's new foundation for missing children:

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

It's not entirely clear what time frame Paulo meant, nor where he got his information from.

If it's from the PJ site https://www.policiajudiciaria.pt/pessoas-desaparecidas/ ,  no physical of trace of Joana has ever been found, yet she doesn't appear on the site.

They might only keep the more recent ones on their list.

That doesn't seem to be the case as from those that I can remember offhand they're long-term ones: Madeleine is still on there (although still with a photo from young childhood as opposed to the age-progressed one). Rui Pedro disappeared in 98, plus a couple of others.

Whatever happened to little Joana, I find it sad that she's not on there. There's room for info to put in a blurb, if ever, that her mother and uncle were convicted, but that no trace of her has been found to date.

The likelihood that she's alive is extremely slim after all this time (IMO), but even so: as there's no physical evidence of what happened to her, someone's memory could still be jogged, even if it's to add some kind of substance of those currently convicted.

There is a conviction for murder in the Cipriano case therefore Joana is not missing so why would she be on a missing children’s database ?
