Firstly Kate herself had said if Madeleine was crying as the walls were paper thin Rachael, who was home that night, would have heard her. If it was one of the neighbouring flats and Mrs Fenn could here the crying then so certainly should the McCanns.

As to the length of crying I believe the child did stop crying but only to sob Daddy, Daddy. She must have taken a breath then.

And yes you can always tell if a sound is coming from above or below you when in a building.

As to Mrs Fenn she shouldn’t be castigate for not wanting to become involved.....a decision that proved to be correct considering the language she was objected to from Kate and Fiona. Nice of her to not mention it in her statement.

If you have perferct hearing you can usually tell the direction that sounds come from.  However Mrs Fen was old and few people of her age have perfect hearing.

If you are INSIDE a building you are more likely to hear sounds from upstairs / downstairs / next door than if you are walking to your apartment.  What route did the McCanns take back to their apartment that night, which other apartments did they pass and how long did they linger outside before entering through the slidey door do you suppose?  If Rachel was home that night why didn’t she hear the screaming McCann child?

Yes, it’s my opinion based on decades of observation.  If you disagree that sound within a building travels more easily than sound from inside a building to the outside of a building then I suggest you walk down a street of terraced houses and listen out for the sound of people walking around, radios, talking, playing music, children crying etc.  If their windows are flung open you just might hear some of the loudest of these sounds, if they are shut I think you will hear very little, however inside the houses you would be more likely to hear sounds going on upstairs or downstairs or next door.   If this doesn’t make any sense to you please say why.

Possibly. However, they knew that Russell was looking after a sick child. Russell doesn't appear to have been asked if their litttle girl was crying that night, nor were the others about anyone other than Madeleine (unless I've missed a bit).

Did anyone ask her if she was sure that it couldn't have come from Block 6?

Did she have her verandah door open that evening? She may have done, although it appears to have been a bit windy and chilly that evening.
