I also don’t think they consider any theory as such, sent to them. I do however think they pay attention to the public’s possible identification of person(s) of interest, relating to the case.

I agree. As Rowley (I think) said there are occasional nuggets.

I never imagined that people would contact the police to share their pet theories. It seems in this case that people have. I expect the police just file them. I expect the McCanns to be similarly unexcited.

I think the police consider all info they receive.  In fact I know they do.  Why wouldn't they?

Given the McCanns were taken in by the S.African guy with some phoney equipment, listening to psychics and praying then I can see no reason why they would not want to consider my well thought out theory.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I expect the police get dozens of people sending them theories every month.  I can’t imagine there’s anything special about Holly’s. and I’m sure they do get filed - in the bin.

The following is a report from Ian Horrocks with 30 years experience as a police officer.  Can someone please tell me how this report differs in terms of quality from the sort of posts/ideas/theories/opinions etc posted here.

Perhaps people here need to have a bit more belief about their own abilities.

His report is fine.  Does he claim to have solved the case though?

No but unlike myself he has not identified any suspects.

I think they consider all info based on merit.

My theory is very closely aligned with Ian's although I've been able to develop mine much further to the point I've identified the abductor(s).

You may think you have but you have no proof, I doubt you have anything resembling evidence either.

Holly, if I am correct you believe a holidaymaker at the OC stole Madeleine McCann and that she is still alive.  What do you believe was the motive for this ?

It is curious that you've picked that up from what Holly has written.  OK that would become very similar to my theory where I was thinking because this other holiday maker couple lose their 3 year old daughter, they take Madeleine in her place.
Which couples had a three year old?

Could a childless couple just turn up with a four year old at home?  But if the couple already had a daughter who looked a bit like Madeleine, Madeleine could just about take her place.

I wonder if Holly will expound on her theory?

You are perfectly entitled to think whatever you want but it doesn't make you right and me wrong.

You battle away 24/7 with those here who believe the parents are responsible and then when someone relatively new comes along with an extremely well thought out and detailed theory where all the pieces fit together puuuuurfectly supporting stranger abduction you still want to disagree.  Maybe you're just well disagreeable despite being a lovely fella in every way.

You totally miss the point. No one has a problem with posters having theories it's whe posters want to insist their theory is what actually happened and that they have solved the case problems arise. There is not enough evidence in the public domain to prove your theory... You just don't realise its only a theory

It's related to the Dunning Kruger effect

Not as far as I know.  The reason I posted his report/theory is that he was a police officer of long experience with the MET and it is self-evident from his report that its no different from the quality of posts here.  Police officers do not possess magical powers they work systematically through information in the same way we do on the forum.  The only advantage the police have over us (and the private agencies employed by McCanns) is investigatory power eg ability to compel suspects/witnesses to attend interview and access certain databases.

I believe a misguided altruistic one but I can't be sure.
