Oh dear.  If your inormation is coming from an iMergencies ad, it's no wonder you are getting it wrong.

We have used 112 twice, and on both occasions the operator spoke English.  That could be because 8 years of English is mandatory in Portugal.  More likely in a land of frequent English speakers, an operator who spoke only English would be as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Though it is not explicitly stated in the files, I cannot see a receptionist at the OC getting a job unless he spoke English.

Nurses etc have to take further English, presumably to cover medical terminology.

Emergency ambulances always carry at least one person who can speak good English.  iMergencies is a waste of money if you hope they will answer on-the-spot questions in Portuguese for you.

Of the 3 or 4 occasions we have been in contact withe the GNR and PSP here, the exchange has always been in English.

Not that it matters, the Great Gonçalo was not part of any emergency response team.  And I suspect he knows more English than he claims.

I prefer to believe the Portugal Resident newspaper rather than an anonymous internet poster who is biased .
You accuse others of bias when you exercise it yourself. Everything you post Re the McCanns is coloured by the fact that you wanted to get involved in the investigation and they ignored your offer of help.... Quite the right thing to do afaiac

Ofcourse there is a very good reason why Kate in her book slags people off by name calling those who offered help.

The fact is Kate n Gerry far from being the  upper middle class they believed they belonged, Kate gave herself a showing up by demonstrating what a common lot the McCanns and Healy's are. They can barely string a sentence together.  That clucking sound with the pulled facial expression still cracks me up. And then I realise she is giving an interview about her 'abducted' daughter...

The McCann's were both Drs at the time Madeleine disappeared,   so they were upper middle class,  sorry if that upsets you.  You laugh at very strange things MTI,   I just listened to that interview and thought Kate betrayed  a very sad woman who had lost her child.   What if she had just clicked her fingers instead?   Would that have been ok for you?

Not much, other than that she lived in Stratfield Saye, Berkshire before moving to Portugal.  Difficult to discern where Mrs Fenn was from...

From her wit stat it appears PF hails from Newmarket.

Who is Frederick Charles Webb e de Hida Youds?  He is named under 'Filicao' which translated literally means 'membership'?  Father, maybe?  I'm unsure about the 'e de' part of the surname?  Hida is apparently a Japanese surname and Youds a rare English surname with origins in the Wirral.

In the niece's wit stat she refers to her uncle (PF's late husband I assume) as hailing from Oz.

Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Would the fact the McCanns are qualified medi doctors make them upper middle class?  I don't think it would.  If I had to describe them in such terms I would place them in socioeconomic group A based on education, income and professional status and in general terms describe them as 'professionals'.  Afaik they both hail from working class Irish Catholic families and attended state schools.

&%%6 Didn't they do well!!
What shining examples of and an absolute credit to the Catholic education system.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Ther is no real dedinition of middle class that is accepted as a fact and it really is quite pointless to try and pigeonhole people. I have never heard the Mccanns describe themselves as middle class and it seems only sceptics have tried to label them....just another mccann bashing exercise.

I agree the class categories are outdated now but the government does actually use socioeconomic data for various purposes.  The McCanns would undoubtedly feature in socio-economic group A by virtue of their education (uni), income and professional status.

The McCann children would be described as coming from a middle class background.

I hope I'm not going to be written off as some obsessive weirdo for looking up PF in the public records but from my search I have found the following:

Pamela A Tombs
Year Born: 1929
Place of Birth: Newmarket, Cambridgeshire

The summaries do not always tie up with the full certificates which might explain why an 'A' appears and not an 'I' or Isobel.  On the other hand it might mean that the above entry is unrelated to PF but it is the only entry for a Pamela born in Newmarket during 1929 as per the info in the wit stat.

Upper middle class people are those born into a specific type of family, speaking Received Pronounciation and privately educated. People such as Boris Johnson and David Cameron are upper middle class.

Middle class people are often those who have changed the class they were born into by doing well in school, going to University and entering well-paid careers. People such as Michael Parkinson and the McCanns are middle class.

Yes the class categories  are outdated,  but it all comes down to money IMO

Well historically you had the upper class which would be described as titled eg royalty and the landed gentry.  Upper middle class which I would describe as the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg, BoJo, DC etc.  Middle class those who work in the professions and are defined by their professional status in that they may have been born to working class families and attended state schools eg McCanns.  Working class and underclass for the rest  8)><(

But you can see the above doesn't really work now.  Eg Kate Middleton and Megan Markle, Sir Philip Green, the Beckhams and Rooneys of this world.
