I disagree....Ive seen nothing to show he was a top cop and lots to show he wasnt..sacked from the mccann case...found guilty of perjury....what evidence is there he was a top cop
Rather a lot actually. Gonçalo de Sousa Amaral was born on 2 October 1959 in the village of Torredeita near Viseu. He studied engineering at IST and ISEL. In 1992/1997 he studied at night time, the Faculty of Law of Lisbon, having graduated in Law and Criminal Sciences. He joined the Public Administration in 1973 , aged 14. In November 1981 he began to study to be an officer of the Judicial Police, and took office in 1982 as an Agent. In 1997/1998 he attended the course of sub-inspectors of the PJ, being ranked first among 100 students. In 2000/2001 he completed the course for Coordinators of PJ. He served in Lisbon, the Algarve and the Azores. He pursued for many years, all sorts of violent and organized crime: theft, robbery, murder, drug trafficking. He had an unblemished career, widely recognized by colleagues and superiors, as well as judges and prosecutors, judicial officials and lawyers, with whom he had the pleasure of dealing.
He retired on July 1, 2008, after 27 years of police career in order to restore the fullness of his freedom of expression on the Madeline McCann case which he investigated and continues to contribute, as far as possible, to the discovery of material truth and realization of justice.
Top cop indeed!
