Ah.  Right.  Is it a good game do you think?

Addictive. Starts off promising,  but with many diversions and false trail along the way. Likely to develop into a long and difficult endgame.  Not for the Faint-hearted.

I know. I was just going along with the 'lets play detective' fantasy

I didn't ask you to play detective did I?

I was merely pointing out the many reasons why a detective might look at CB.

Sorry I haven't got time to play detective so I'm certainly not addicted.

It's a mistake for a member of the judiciary to announce that a suspect is guilty of murder before guilt has been judged proved in court. It's also a mistake to announce that the parents of a missing child have been informed that she is dead when that doesn't appear to have happened.

The first announcement is likely to have breached the suspect's human rights.
The second announcement led to the parents issuing a public denial.

As has been said previously Wolter could have appealed to the public for information without involving Brueckner or informing the public, and her parents, that they believe that she was dead. I have a feeling even SY didn’t know he was going to go that far.

It would have been very easy to leave it as an unidentified German national, but that wouldn't have served his purpose, which I believe was to scupper any chance that Brueckner might have had of being paroled by partially  Identifying him and letting the Tabloids do the rest.

How could you do an appeal for information about a specific suspect without identifying him?

Amaral raised the issue in a podcast in 2019.  Amaral then raised the issue once more in a television interview in 2020.

In both interviews he was at pains to finger a German paedophile serving time in a German jail.  There was a choice of two but he helpfully indicated which one it was not ~ the press did the rest.

Who identified that the prime suspect was a patsy in a German jail?  Why did he interfere in the German case with false information?  That no doubt is for him to know and others to wonder about his purpose if they so wish..

Interesting though that he has started to withdraw some of his assertions in his latest TV outing though.

I firmly believe that without Amaral's intervention we might not yet have heard the name Brueckner while the Germans tightened up their investigation.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If I was a detective looking at CB I would think to myself,  he had the nerve to enter an apartment,  he was used to stealing from apartments he beat and raped an elderly woman,  he could have killed her brought on an heart attack maybe.   Plus he has been charged with sexual attacks on children.   Put the two together?    He could easily have had the nerve to go into 5a and take Madeleine.  IMO

Could have doesn't mean did though. To say something happened and point to the perpetrator a detective needs more than 'could have'.

They appealed for information on a phone call and two vehicles. That could have been done 'in connection' with Madeleine McCann's disappearance without anything else being revealed.

You could never accuse anyone here of being faint hearted.  I could think of a few things, but never that.

I don't see an appeal for information about a phone call made 13 years ago without naming the person called would have been worth the bother.  Certainly naming CB in conjunction with the vehicles and call would likely result in far more info coming forward IMO.  I take it you disapprove of Crimewatch programmes that name suspects and show pictures of them appealing for information too?

Revealing the fact that she may be dead, especially it seems before informing her parents, suggests that Wolter and his team were willing to secure a conviction no matter what the cost.

Don't Crimewatch usually say something along the lines of 'we are seeking this person in connection with' etc etc.

I don't think they'd be saying 'This is CB, he murdered Maddie & we're seeking information'

hi Spammy, how are you today?  I think sometimes on Crimewatch they flash up a mugshot and say something like "this is Peter Plonker, who is wanted in connection with a series of sexual assaults that took place on the Thames tow path at Teddington" or something like that.  I think when you see someone's face on the telly and you're being told they are wanted in connection with a serious crime it probably doesn't do all that much to enhance the individual's reputation.
