Apparently so, but I think the sceptics should wait and see what the outcome is before crowing too loudly about it, they’re liable to look even more foolish in due course.
I am the fool. I don't care if CB admits to it tomorrow. Kudos and ego are meaningless.
But I'll crow about the frivolity and emanant miasma of overt, collective incompetence at taxpayer expense though.
£15 million. Decades from now people will marvel at how this fiasco was born and how it endured, propped up by a succession of sycophants and rank incompetents.

There is one piece of truth in the story.. Grange is closing.

Judging by the comments here;

no-one disagrees with the idea of closing it. Well, there's one lone voice crying "Would you say that if it was your child?" Surely even the McCann's will have to acknowledge that they have been incredibly priviledged compared to the parents of other missing children?

I agree that it's dragged on long enough.  It seems the ball is in the Germans' court now anyway so let them see this through, hopefully to a successful conclusion. And yes, the McCanns have been on the receiving end of a huge amount of goodwill and resources which I don't begrudge them one bit - Madeleine's case is pretty unique but millions of taxpayers' money has been spent trying to solve other high profile murder/crime cases so it's not completely unprecedented.  If the police believed that there were significant leads to follow that required money and resources to investigate, why would they not do so?

Anyhow, it seems we have nicely been sidetracked once again from the many, many boxes CB ticks, a subject which is obviously uncomfortable for some to deal with.

Unlike some, I'm not convinced the PJ were aware of CB. He didn't live in Luz, he wasn't seen in the vicinity and no-one suggested his name to the police at the time. His criminal record in Portugal was for theft.

Of course he lived in Luz, but not in the centre.

Please, you are misinforming again ... can you correct your post please

He certainly ticked the opportunity box, though some try very hard to dispute that.  He was local, his phone was used in PdL that night.  Boxes ticked.  Tick, tick.

We may have been able to potentially save a few grand if HCW would have arrested CB and questioned him - who knows?
So, rather puzzlingly, because HCW has been instructed not to show his hand, or he simply couldn't due to, bizarrely, a lack of evidence, here we are, the stupid Tommys, the ros beef, sat burning £20 notes on a bonfire of vanities, while he 'investigates' when there's nothing left to investigate. I wonder what their resources look like now, post the excavation of Lower Saxony.
That's something I suppose, the Germans have frittered several million of their own euro chasing the shadow of CB, when they could simply have asked him, then charged him.

Funding for Grange is renewed on an annual basis for each financial year (April to March). So as last year's grant is about to expire, it would appear that now is when they need to apply for the next funding. According the (as yet unverified) source, the team have applied for a 6 month extension only, to continue their activities up to September.

Hypothetically, if the Met are under the impression from their German counterparts that CB is going to be charged within the next few months, such a move would be consistent with that IMO. Why would you apply for a full year's funding if you are expecting a charge in the case way before then? Conversely, if you think you have no more decent leads and that the German investigation is all but dead for you to assist them with, why apply for additional funding at all?

I just think the sceptics might want to curb any premature celebrations, this move might not signify what you hope it does.

Hardly celebrations. Tempered relief from perception of proxy-indignation? Is that a thing?
Does it really mean anything to me? No, apart from infrequent posting inanely on an obscure forum. I'm not going to nip out and purchase a 3l bottle of White Lightning and a Gregg's sausage roll by way of celebration.
If this thread didn't exist I'd probably move on to another and post more garbage about the subject de jour.
I'm not ambivalent, I have a mild interest in my perception of the incongruity of OG.

At the time of Madeleine McCann's disappearance CB was of no fixed abode. Where do you think he lived Sadie?

He may have been of "no fixed abode" but that does not mean he was not living in or close to his regular haunt of PdL does it?  Where do you think he was living?

I don't know where he was, I just know that he didn't have an address in Luz. He lost that when he was imprisoned for theft.

Twenty four pages of box ticking but it seems as if evidence is going to be the deciding factor.

The case against Brueckner has been built on evidence.  That which was ignored in 2007.  That which came to the attention of SY investigators in 2013 and which has been followed and built upon since then until 2022.
Didn't you notice?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....
