Has it gone full circle and the PJ are once again the lead .

It is quite possible that CB's human rights were breached in Germany. That would add complications to any trial.

Dear me….and here was I all excited that we’d finally see Brueckner in the dock.

One of the newspapers today, Birmingham Post of all things, had him charged in Germany

Either they are putting out fake news, or they know more than anyone else.

If CB ends up being questioned and offers no comment to , oh lets say 48 questions, how would that be perceived one wonders.

Now there’s a conundrum.

Let’s count the months, shall we?

Now let's see - what could it possibly mean, eh?  Either that he's guilty and refusing to answer questions, or that he's innocent and refusing to answer questions...hmmm.....

I'll tell thee what though, kids, I'll bet there was some serious whingeing going on with the German diplomats scurrying around trying to get Portugal to make him arguido before the SoL expires, with brinksmanship all round.
It's merely a legal device, as we know, but I'll be keeping an eye out for some obscure trade tariff being reduced somewhere, by way of quid pro quo. Or some other German nonce languishing in a squalid Bragan gaol getting a free ride back to Saxony.

But this has been known about for years. Why the last minute haste ?

Indeed so.

I'm not sure how I feel about it though.

Obviously all to do with the Portuguese Statute of Limitations clock being reset.  Is that a good thing?  Or is it a wrecking ball?

It's a wrecking ball, IMO

Exactamundo. Could be linked to the BKA's failure to cobble any meaningful evidence together. Let's get it right, they were expecting this to be cased closed 18 months ago, so now the wolf is at the door, so to speak.

Any perceived breaches of human rights have to be raised during a trial. CB's lawyers declaring that the trial was unfair would be distracting to say the least.

They'll probably start there. Irrespective of 'evidence', they should move to stop it before it even begins, exploring any technical breach they can find - and I'm sure there's plenty to go at.
But, alas, none of this will ever come to pass. This is a diplomatic mutual back scratching exercise, and not the beginning of the end. More like the end of the end of the beginning with no end.
