Unfortunately I can also foresee a situation in which Portugal apply to/send an EAW to Italy to surrender CB to them for prosecution in Madeleine's case. At the same time, Germany also have to request Italy's permission under the Speciality clause of the earlier, executed EAW to deal with all the unlisted crimes which preceded its issue. This may end up as a dispute to be sorted by ECJ because it should never be overlooked that the prisoner has rights to a fair trial.

You definitely aren't wrong about this.  But I would like to see any EU Country trying to extradite a German Citizen from Germany for crimes committed against children in some other EU Country when Portugal never even tried.

So, someone will drag this out no doubt.  But The EU is a whole place wherein the same Laws apply.

Let's face it.  The PJ were only interested in the easiest suspect.  Detective work never came into it
Leonore Cipriano and then Kate McCann, both of whose children disappeared within a five mile distance.

If only I believed that it was just misogyne.

Two missing children who just vanished from the face of the earth within such a close distance and the same police investigating both disappearances, should have rung alarm bells..

But with the lead of one inquiry being an arguido in the torture of the mother in the first botched case heading the inquiry into the second case which he firmly botched too, that just wasn't allowed to happen.

Brueckner was in Praia da Luz in 2007 and apparently not even questioned.  I think that gives an indication of the sad standard of the investigation which took place into Madeleine's disappearance if ever one was needed.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Never mentioned lawyers - you must be getting confused.

Read this very carefully for this is the last time of posting > "NB The quote I used came directly from the article in the Olive Press."

I've had my suspicions about the absolute change of tack and Brueckner being being made an arguido.  But I didn't know there had been a change in a key player.

Should I still remain suspicious?  That remains to be seen.

A former police chief was the key player in the decision to make Christian Brueckner a formal suspect in the Madeleine McCann inquiry.

Luis Mota Carmo, 60, has taken over day-to-day control of the long-running prosecution probe in Portugal.

Days after replacing the previous lead prosecutor, he led the move to make convicted German paedophile Brueckner an “arguido” in the case.

A source said: “It’s always a concern when a fresh prosecutor takes charge of a high-profile case but Luis knows this one inside out and has hit the ground running.

“The decision to make Brueckner an arguido was very much his.”

The same System of Justice applies throughout The EU.  Portugal never quite got this.  Portugal is still living in The Salizar Era of which Amaral was one.  They all somehow reinvented themselves.  And are now Judges in The Supreme Court.

This is why The Judges of The First Instance are so often overruled.  The Old Guard isn't having it.  And I suspect that they will have to be dead before anything changes.

Portugal is such a beautiful Country, but it is full of fear.  You can smell it in the air when you see Policemen stomping around.

It is obvious common sense to wonder how Amaral got that job when he was made Arguido in the Cipriano Case on the very next day.

Who were these people who put Amaral in charge?

Once more you are entirely wrong.

My post
Behind a paywall >  https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2022/04/30/justice-for-madeleine-mccann-inches-nearer/
Thanks to a poster on WS for the following summary

Brueckner had just finished a light lunch before his interview took place.  Apparently his lawyer had opted not to attend.

Present were two PJ officers and three BKA officers.

They spoke to Brueckner for over an hour.

They put twenty questions to him all of which he refused to answer.

The Portuguese had been negotiating for months to interview CB.

BKA is currently going through the extradition with Italy which should take a couple of months.

There is no way the Germans will allow CB to be extradited to Portugal.

Nowhere does it say anything about Brueckner's lawyer or his attendance or non-attendance at Brueckner's questioning

NB The quote I used came directly from the article in the Olive Press.

It says "Apparently his lawyer had opted not to attend."

If you have access to the Olive Press article, why are you copying and pasting a summary by a poster on another website?

A curious remark can be found within the part of the copy of Brueckner's letter shown in this article. He said that the police cannot incriminate him by planting any of Madeleine's hair/other things because they (the police) don't have any. How would he know that the police don't have any of Madeleine's hair?

I thought that Gerry flew back to England to bring Madeleines pillow or forensic type debris from it back to PT.  What happened to that ?

I believe that Wolters has said they have no forensics.
No forensics linking CB to the crime which is different from no forensic evidence of Madeleine McCann’s existence.
