Operationally I would think it easier to have two items to track rather than one.  Since they followed similar paths one could presume they had similar scents on them. But since they did not track to Madeleine there would be no inferences we could make from this.
What concerned me was that the blanket reappeared in the video of the dog searches of the Villa the McCanns hired at the end of June (??) So when was it returned was  question I wanted answered.

- The villa is on Rua das Flores, 27, rented at the beginning of the summer with money donated to the Find Madeleine Fund.

The blanket was handed out at 02.30am on 4th May, as Kate describes in her book and the dog handler confirms;

They were given a pink/orange blanket that the child had been covered with in her bed.

They began searching with the dogs from the main entrance to the apartment, having given the blanket to his dog Numi to smell and begin to search.

The handler doesn't say if he kept the blanket; he may have handed it back after his dog sniffed it.

The towel was given to the tracker dog handler who searched at around 11.30pm on 4th May;

His role was to use the dogs' skills by allowing them to sniff a towel which had supposedly been used by the minor in question.

How was this established? "which was supposedly used"  even the PJ had their degree of uncertainty by the sound of things.

Did they use the pink blanket to get the sniffer dogs to find the towel?  No parents of Madeleine involved.

Their head honcho had his conviction from the word 'GO' and little doubt he passed it on to his subordinates.

This is in August so it would have been well washed by then (in the extended video you get a better look at it iirc).

Eddie pulls it out of the wardrobe but doesn't alert to it.

As I said the better view of it was edited out. But "yes" if it was the MBM blanket and no cadaver odour on it that is a plus I'd say.  A plus if you want to be able to find MBM alive.
