Could I ask something which hasn't been mentioned yet.  There are two maps currently being shown on other sites which show tracker dog trails to Supermercado Baptista in Praia da Luz.  I have attached them for reference below.

Where did these come from because I fail to see any statements to back them up?
Rub... as some would say. It seems tabloids invented them. There's a correct map in the PJ Files.

No idea, sorry.

The second one has a 'AP' logo sort of thing in the left lower side, but the Associated Press has a totally different logo ( I don't know if it was different back then)

I have had a look and they are both described as >> GNR Portuguese Tracker Dogs trail of the Live Madeline From apartment to Baptista supermarket car park.

Is it to be assumed that those trails were laid down when the McCann's popped down to the supermercado?

Could the other trail which terminates opposite reception be just as innocent?

There's only one map in the PJ Files and it matches the descriptions of the dogs' routes by the GNR officers  in their reports. No Batista Supermercado is involved. The trail is more or less the one reported by GMC in a statement, when, one morning, Madeleine ran off with the twins behind her.

I remember that at the time there was talk that the dogs only picked the tracks that were usually taken by the family in their ordinary day lives, except for a track to the car park (not the one outside the apartment, but an empty space just close by) but that ended right there.

Why wouldn't that trail be innocent? I don't expect people to walk only one trail during 4 or 5 days.

What has always puzzled me in this case isn't so much what was found but what wasn't found, namely the scarcity of evidence of the child's presence in Praia da Luz.  I know there were a "bunch" of blonde kiddies at the place during that time and when they are so young it's hard to differentiate one for another. But we are discussing dogs here, and isn't it strange that they only captured two routes when supposedly the child had been around the village/beach on several activities?

If you read the text below the pictures, on the mccannfiles.com under the side menu of maps/aerial pictures, it is explained that they are erroneous.

Yes, thank you Redblossom.   It is reproduced below...

On 05 May 2007, the Daily Mirror reported that 'Maddy went missing at the Mark Warner Ocean club resort in the coastal village of Praia da Luz on Portugal's Algarve. A trail of her scent picked up by police dogs at the flat was followed to a supermarket just 400 yards away where it disappeared'. Clearly, it should have read 400 feet, not yards. The two pictures above detail this route.

Two maps referred to.

However, this report is not supported by the facts contained within the PJ's files.

The Chief of the GNR Search and Rescue Team, who coordinated all the work carried out by the two sniffer dogs, states that the dogs took the same route on both 04 May 2007 and 08 May 2007 - i.e. around the apartments and into the nearby car park, where the trail was lost. (Statement can be viewed on this page)

Although we now know the route described by the Daily Mirror, and highlighted above, to be incorrect, the pictures remain as they do provide good aerial views of the area and also provide a good example of how incorrect newspaper reports can take on a life of their own.

And therein lies the danger of believing what one reads in newspapers.

Definitely so, even the so called respectable broadsheets have printed untruths and twisted facts and introduced false stories.

Eddie's alerts are somehow a matter of belief, since it's hard to imagine the dog smelt something we can't see. Apart from the blood under the tiles behind the sofa (tiny substance but substance all the same), Eddie alerted in 3 others points in and out the flat where Keela found no blood.
Could Eddie's alerts make sense if linked to the 3 sniffer dogs findings ? All 3 followed the same route, the first one after smelling the little blanket and the two others the towel. A tracker dog always follows the strongest scent, usually the freshest.
The issue is why did they follow that route around the building ? Could it be that Madeleine wandered off ?

Yes, Redblossom. You'll see my point later. Let's call that car park a public car park (which it is) and let's regret the tapas gate was closed, since one dog, Rex, tried to get through in vain. The track stopped at the lamp post.
Was this the last route of Madeleine ? Did she meet her fate at the lamppost ?
