Scuse me DM, where does the so called deadlock *originate*? Only answer if your IQ is above 125 or so, because obviously the journalist monkey who wrote that hasnt got a clue. The source for this rubbish? oops, not SY, not PJ, not any journo, not any named person, answers on a postcard. Fact is here for a few days running Portugal are getting the blame by the UK tabloids and broadsheets even for the Uks tardiness in going through the official channels to be able to *work* in Portugal.

Madeleine McCann: British police denied access to vital DNA clues

7 Jul 2013 00:01

Scotland Yard officers believe samples from clothing, windows, bed linen and furniture at her family’s holiday apartment could still hold DNA traces

British police investigating Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are being denied access to vital evidence by Portuguese authorities.

Scotland Yard officers believe samples from clothing, windows, bed linen and furniture at her family’s holiday apartment could still hold DNA traces.

But Portuguese officials refuse to hand over the evidence gathered after three-year-old Madeleine vanished in the Algarve in 2007.

The deadlock has prevented British officers from ruling out potential suspects and following up nearly 4,000 leads generated after detectives sifted 30,000 documents.

They believe access to the evidence would let them narrow down their list of 38 suspects, including 12 Britons.

Crown Prosecution Service lawyers are being forced to submit a formal request for the evidence. London’s chief Crown prosecutor Alison Saunders and her deputy Jenny Hopkins went to Portugal last month in connection with the Met’s review of the case.

A source said: “The lawyers were sent to begin negotiations to get access to evidence that police believe is very important and is in storage over there.

"The Metropolitan Police force have now asked the Crown Prosecution Service to apply for international letters of request.

“The fear is the Portuguese were so inept in the early stages that much of the DNA may be lost. But we hope that there will still be traces on some of the items.” The Met this week issued an upbeat announcement of “genuinely new” leads and suggested arrests could be made in weeks.

Officers say they are working on the theory that Madeleine, who would now be 10, is alive.

But Portugal’s top lawyer has poured scorn on the Yard’s investigation insisting it has no right to pursue inquiries into Madeleine’s abduction from the Praia da Luz flat.

Yard detectives have also flown to Switzerland to probe the movements of killer Urs Hans von Aesch, who committed suicide after abusing five-year-old Ylenia Lenhard shortly after Madeleine disappeared. She bore a striking resemblance to blonde Madeleine.

Von Aesche, who had been living in Spain, was initially ignored by police in the Algarve who were working on the false theory that Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry played a part in her disappearance.

Those self-called journalists, ignoring (or faking ignorance) mutual judicial assistance has some rules, propagate disinformation.
The Home Office took about 5 months to accept the MP's request, the CPS's homologous.
If this rubbish isn't denounced by the interested parties, what shall we deduce ?

Any paper that employs Tony Parsons belongs in the gutter.

As his articles on this case show too clearly.

now, if Scotland Yard have been saying how much of a good working relationship they are having with their PT counterparts, why is the media printing this crap? Why are the media jeopardising relations?

Who has interest in a misinterpretation/disinformation campaign ? The Portuguese press hasn't yet mentioned the UK press has started to strike, but the scar isn't that old that it wouldn't reopen.

The British Press have instigated this latest anti  Portuguese bonanaza, I wonder who is behind it, Im sure Andy would regard it as a perversion of  the course of justice, then if  he kept his mouth shut, no papers could print anything

The prospect of increased circulation and higher profits.  What else?
The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

IMO The Press are in the business of selling as many newspapers as possible.   Everything and everyone else is secondary.  Which is why I never buy them.

And their reason to print negative rather than positive is???? Are you saying people will pick up e SUN etc ONLY if they see that the  PT police WONT cooperate, ratherthan pick up a copy  if it says PT POLICE IS COOPERATING with UK POLICE, hello? Dont you think the British papers have in the last few days been peddling LIES, its obvious they have been, so who does it serve? The papers would sell either way.

I agree with this, it's too easy to consider the press like the bad greedy one. Why didn't Mr Redwood keep his mouth shut or, instead of talking quantity in hope to conceal lack of quality, just announce a rogatory letter was going to be sent to the MP ? He had to justify the millions though.

Yes, he said 38 people of interest, then said words to suggest they could be suspects....the police/papers months ago plus plus talked about all the possible suspects, too, NOTHING has changed in three months only the numbers given

the CPS went to Portugal in APRIL
What has stopped them asking mutual assistance since then? Instead we have the stupid British press saying its the pT authorities holding things up or denying Uk police access to evidence when in fact its the UK!!!!!! Thathavent got their finger out, so I ask again, if Redwood and the PT have a good relationship, as he has said all along, WHO are the British papers serving to give an image of hostilitybetween the two? WHO???

They print 'negative' instead of 'positive' because 'bad news' headlines sell more papers that 'good news' headlines.    I thought everyone knew that.
