Does anyone know if the McCanns will regain their arguido status if the case if reopened?
I don't think so, according to what I heard they'll open a little abduction window and all that will grow out of it will be cut without pity !

I notice it says the main damage was caused TO the McCanns, not by them.   The AG obviously did not hold them responsible for the non-reconstruction and attached no blame to them.  A point which he must have taken into consideration when making his final decision which he made 'after considering all the foregoing' - (the ''foregoing' which included the remarks about the non-reconstruction) - and stated that it was apparent they played no part in the disappearance of their daughter - and gave all the reasons why.

this is a very poor translation

The "main damage" was caused to the McCanns, of course, but by their acquaintances and friends. The AG is subtle..
Now when the AG mentions that Madeleine might have died in an accident and have her body disposed of, who do you think he thought could have done that ?

Well he didn't think it was the McCanns as he quite clearly stated there was no evidence that they had committed any crime  - and lifted their arguido status.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

The PJ and Leicestershire police searched for an abductor during the first 3 months after Maddie disappeared and came up with nothing. So don't come with your rants that they never looked for an abductor!! As I have said several times, an investigation here does not have one remit, such as abduction. All evidence and leads have to be looked into. Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

How do you explain the utter and abject failure of the PJ ever to even check out the night creche records in relation to the Tanner sighting? One quick look at those records, eight interviews of people who were all in PDL and that could have been dealt with immediately. But they showed either gross incompetence or were completely uninterested.

You can go on excusing the "botched" job done by Amaral and his team but the UK people are being told the truth now about the way the case was handled.

Little birdies whispering in the ear of an amateur such as yourself is hardly going to fill us with confidence about your knowledge of the actual case.

You have no more idea than anyone else what this new line of inquiry really is and how important it may be.

Should the case actually be re-opened after this petition from the PJ to the authorities then we will know for certain two things. Firstly there is real and substantial evidence of abduction and secondly that both the PJ and the Prosecutors believe that evidence is sufficiently strong to justify a new inquiry.

And still we have not got a single sign from Amaral that he has a shred of evidence against the McCanns or surely he would have brought it forward to the PJ and got the case re-opened as a case against the parents?  We will see the abduction thesis in the supremacy and the Amaral thesis rapidly waning.

There was some notion on this forum that you were a poster with your nose close to the action. Clearly not.

What we won't  know,  at this point,  is what the  'substance'  of the evidence refers to

... and it really has nothing to do with Amaral ...  any evidence that leads to the Portuguese police re-opening the case will have come from  Scotland Yard

And whatever that evidence is,  it clearly has nothing to do with the McCanns chosen  (  and relenlessly pushed )  abduction theory,  which has been scotched

Yes, and I'd say its something SY may have found, in the files that was missed or put in the NR box.

"The Portuguese authorities ponder reopen the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, following the analysis by PJ Port over the past two years".

I see that the Portuguese authorities are taking credit for the supposed 'discovery' of new information

The McCann theory of abduction has not been "scotched" as you claim. It is being pursued with vigour by the Operation Grange team. You do yourself no credit with nonsense such as that.

One potential abductor who the PJ failed to eliminate has now been removed from the Inquiry by proper police work. Others are still in the frame.

As we do not know what the new evidence they are presenting to the MP in their petitioning for the re-opening of the case we cannot be sure it has not come from their own work over the last two years or whether it is a result of cooperation between the two country's forces or whether they have purloined the evidence to present to the MP.
