My earlier work has involved deaing with children who have been abused ( physical/mental/sexual) by parents, and were then fostered out/adopted. When parents wanted to get in touch or children wanted to meet their birth parents it was NEVER, EVER pleasant.  This was not my nasty mind wishing it you understand- this was actual outcomes. And this is a real possibility that it will happen. This doesn't tie in with the wholesome happy family you buy into.

Good Morning, Alfred.  What is Empathy exactly?  I'm not sure if lack of it is frightfully civilised, but it is no doubt much less worrying.
Is one born with Empathy or does it just grow on some of us?

I'm not sure whether it is innate or learnt.  I do know that some of the most despicable crimes are committed by those who don't have it, but then some of the most successful in business and politics are evidently without it either but then maybe it's all part of the same thing.  I'm sure humanity would be alot more efficient if we did not have the ability to empathise but perhaps the world would be a harsher place to live.  I certainly wouldn't want to live in a world where the concept was generally sneered at.
