In what universe is a father frantically searching for his missing child evidence of guilt on his part?

Gerry went missing for around 10 minutes. It was around that same time period he was seen carrying his dead daughter away, as it happens. It isn't complicated.

I've spelt out what I think - that he wad either mistaken or whoever took / translated the notes was mistaken.  I don't immediately distrust a person who makes a mistake, that would be absurd.  I trust Gerry inasmuch as I don't think he had any hand in his daughter's disappearance, yes.

What if he wasn't mistaken? Maybe he was just lying. That's possible isn't it.

The only way I could be lying, that the Smith sighting was Gerry, was if it had been proven that it wasn't Gerry.
But it hasn't been proven it wasn't Gerry, because it was Gerry.

You must know, because you've read the files, apparently, & that's how you know it was impossible for Gerry to have been seen by the Smiths, while he was out searching alone.
