The parents of Madeleine McCann, Kate and Gerry, were in Portugal last week summoned informally by the Judicial Police (PJ) that informed them of the plans to reopen the investigation, a request that the Public Ministry announced on Thursday accepted The meeting took place last Thursday, 17th, at the end of a meeting with Scotland Yard inspectors who are also investigating the disappearance of the English girl while she was vacationing with her family at Praia de Luz, Algarve. May 2007. The information is contained in a statement released Thursday by the Metropolitan Police of London and confirmed by a source of the national board PJ, who said that the meeting took place at the headquarters of that police in Lisbon. McCann's lawyer Rogério Alves confirms that clients were informed of the request to reopen the investigation. "This means that the police understand that there are new paths that can be explored. And this provoked in the parents a legitimate expectation that not only the truth be discovered, but the fact that it is possible to discover Madeleine alive, which is the only objective of this effort that they have been undertaking. "Rogério Alves adds that the parents of Madeleine are considering to be assistants in the process, "since this line of investigation excluded any responsibility of the own ones as to the crime that will be in the base of the disappearance of Madeleine". In a statement, quoted by the English media, the McCanns manifested themselves "We hope this will eventually lead to the finding and discovery of whoever is responsible for this crime," they said.

Kate and Gerry McCann again appeal to the public to pass on relevant information to the police, but call for "respect" for the investigations. "Please be patient and respect the work of the police while it seeks to find the answers that we so desperately need." They also called on the media to take into account Madeleine's safety and the integrity of the investigation.

In a note, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) said that the reopening was determined "following a proposal by the Judiciary Police, and given the presentation of new evidence to justify further investigation."
"Navigating the difference between weird but normal grief and truly suspicious behaviour is the key for any detective worth his salt.". ….Sarah Bailey

So was the only evidence supplied by the McCanns? An open window and shutters seen by no-one except them and their assurance that they knew what their child was capable of and what she would or wouldn't do.

Kate McCanns told us how well she knew Madeleine when talking about her sleep habits;

However, in England Madeleine sometimes woke up during the night, around 2 ' 2:30 AM and went to her parents........Knowing that Madeleine sometimes woke and got up, she did not worry about leaving her alone, because when this happened, and it wasn't always, it was around 2 ' 3 AM at which time they would be back in the apartment.

When I realized Madeleine wasn’t actually there, I went through to our bedroom to see if she’d got into our bed. [madeleine]

Kate wasn't 100% sure she could predict Madeleine's behaviour then.

In my opinion any mother finding her eldest child missing from her bed would have been terribly remiss not to have checked out all the possibilities.
Mind you in my opinion there are those who consider Kate damned if she did and damned if she didn't ... so you pays your money and you take your choice.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If it was a possibility after she disappeared it was also a possibility before she disappeared. Otherwise why put the medicines away?

 Before they left she took some precautions: put the medicine inside a bag with a clasp in her room inside the wardrobe or the dresser.

Didn't the McCann's say they were shocked to find some witness reports of sightings of Madeleine which hadn't been investigated?

Are you suggesting that she wouldn't have bothered if it had been one of the twins ?

Davel said "There is certainly circumstantial evidence of abduction so to say there is no evidence is untrue"  so what is this evidence?

There is no evidence of a stranger abduction from the bedroom and davel has never pointed to any.

Do you leave medication lying around under any circumstances?  I do not.  Therefore I do not find it in the least surprising that parents ensure all medications are kept well out of child access at all times.

In my opinion ordinary everyday actions cannot be considered imbued of adverse implication which never existed just because they are performed by Kate or Gerry McCann.
Why on earth would you consider it extraordinary that they did not leave medication lying around at any time?

Why not? They said they left the patio door unlocked and where were the keys? Gerry doesn't mention bringing keys to the restaurant in his arguido statement. On 4 May it was a different story.

"He does not remember if he had taken his mobile phone to the restaurant. He is under the impression that he did not take anything with him, except maybe his wallet." http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/GERRY-MCCANN-ARGUIDO.htm
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

The URL suggests it is an arguido statement, but in fact it was the statement made the day before.

It's such an everyday thing for a parent to do that it's unusual for one to not only remember doing it four months earlier but to feel the need to mention it. I notice some of it was taken out again later on;
