So what is your definition of open minded?
In the case of a book review,, someone who gives a balanced appraisal, who seeks to present the good as well as the bad, and clearly there must be something to recommend Kate's book as 71% of reviews make clear.  The fact that this book is so often cited on this forum means that it is an invaluable source of information on the case, much of which is used by some to damn the author herself (just think of the mileage provided by f..king tosser, tweedle dee, and genitals - it's been a boon and a gift to those who never cease going on about those particular excerpts).  For example if I were reviewing Amaral's book I would recognise that it is a valuable insight into the thinking of the PJ at the time the McCanns were made arguidos, despite the fact that that thinking was clearly muddle-headed and just plain wrong in some aspects.  I would highlight the fact that it is written in an economical style which means it is (mercifully) short, but to the point.  I would finish by urging the author to update his book with his current thinking on the case (such as MI5 know where the body is - everyone loves a conspiracy theory).

As for the review that was presented as "open minded" it simply trots out the same old baloney we can see written on all the usual internet chat rooms on the case.  Open minded would be giving due consideration to the abduction theory, instead the reader has come to the bizarre conclusion from reading the book that Madeleine came a cropper days before the 3rd!   It would reserve judgement on the author herself, rather than obviously judging her whilst laughably claiming not to be judging anyone, or speculating luridly about what may have happened to her in her earlier life.   All in my humble opinion.

Being housebound today, I ploughed through a dozen pages or so of Amazon reviews.
Very few readers seemed to think much of either content or literary style.

How is it then the the book has 71% 4 & 5 star reviews?  Here's the thing, all the most popular reviews have been 'liked' by the usual McCann sceptic posse, and they are all the shit reviews, quel surprise!

I haven't read all 75 or so pages so can't answer that. However, stars aren't just awarded for content, but also for condition and speed of delivery

Same with 1 star reviews.  The fact of the matter is there are 45 pages of 5 star reviews and only 15 pages of 1 star reviews.  Most of the 1 star reviews however have an average of 50 likes compared with 5 star reviews that only on average receive a handful of likes.

Do you doubt that they experienced these emotions?

I'm quite sure that they experienced those and many more emotions. Whatever happened that night it was a traumatic experience. What I don't like is seeing their feelings being used as an excuse or a reason for their actions; that's speculation. It's not consistent either. If, for example, Gerry forgot which door he used when he went to check the children I don't want to be told it was due to his trauma and lack of sleep. That's not a reason, it's a guess.

You're telling us it's a fact Gerry forgot which door he used though.  Is it a fact or a correction based on a misunderstanding?

The continuing theme being that if the McCanns said or did something strange or inconsistent, it wasn't their fault. The problem is that it may have been their fault and you may be wrong.

Perhaps you can explain why Kate's book gives the impression that the twins were taken from 5A to 5H, when the timeline of events doesn't support that? Was it due to trauma, lack of sleep or incompetent translators?

I really don't know and I really don't care.  Perhaps you can explain it, as it is obviously something that matters an awful lot to you and you seem to spend a lot of time concerning yourself with it?

Why ask questions in the first place if you don't like the answers ?

I didn’t ask the question on this occasion, but thanks for your admonishment.

Could be lots of reasons but as we are told they are not suspects and there's no evidence  against them it obviously isn't important

No misunderstanding.  The patio door was open and didn't need a key yet GM initially claimed he went to the trouble of walking all the way round to the front door which required a key.  Was he expecting to meet someone in the car park per chance?
