If I were to write a book in those circumstances it would be to try to find my daughter  so I expected it to be the same , I do not suspect the McCanns btw

‘It is a sad fact that not a single police force anywhere is proactively looking for Madeleine (as is the case for many other missing children). I am sure this book will re-energize the search for our daughter and the public will get behind the Find Madeleine campaign once again. It is simply not acceptable that the authorities have given up on Madeleine – especially when no comprehensive review of the case has been undertaken. Our daughter, and whoever took her, are out there. We need your help to find them.’
Gerry McCann, May 2011

... and guess what ... a new chapter opened for Madeleine when the search for her was resumed in 2013.  It was a disgracefully long time coming for a little girl the authorities effectively gave up on just months into her disappearance, but come it did both here and in Portugal.

Do you think any police force would be looking for her now and investigating her case without the constant agitating and keeping Madeleine's name alive that her parents have maintained over the years 'cos I certainly don't.

The book was in my opinion a means to an end and in my opinion was therefore a resounding success.

I bought it too and read it despite my sadness at the narrative.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I bought it too and kept it.
I brought it out today to make my earlier post.
My husband noticed it and has decided to read it.
I willl be interested in his view of it as he is not involved in any discussions etc re this case.

Some members will recall an event a few years ago when a link to the Madeleine book was left up on the forum. A complaint was made to our then service provider and we immediately removed it. That raises an interesting question for me.

Was the promotion of Madeleine's disappearance of less importance to the selling of a few books?

A very good question John.

Who made the complaint?

McCanns representatives.

McCanns representatives.

So no name?
Could it have been the publisher?
I have to agree with Davel, probably because of the hostile nature of the forum towards the McCanns.

I think the forum is as balanced as it can be. Besides if it got the book to a wider audience surely hurt feelings shouldn’t have got in the way.

What do you mean by " as balanced as it can be"

The book was widely publicised with a main display in various bookshops, a news item in newspapers and TV.
I don't imagine for one minute that this forum  not having a link allowed would have made the slightest difference to the huge sales the book made.
As yet I am not convinced by John's reply.
Who were these"representatives"

The publishers, or family or lawyers .....who?

As there are passionate, opposing sides I think the forum is certainly more balanced than most.

And I agree the link being posted on this forum would have made not the slightest difference to book sales but it would have got the book to a wider audience, that’s if raising awareness of Madeleine’s plight and not just making money was the object.

The Carter-Ruck outfit.   It backfired though because forum readership exploded.

I I R C seems it was a mistake on there side, this site use to support them

I remember it being discussed on another forum.

The general take on it was they bit a hand that feeds them.

It would appear that the search for Maddie comes a poor second to copyright law.

Only the mccanns can make money on madde

IMO that's the mccanns for you.

The Publishers would have had the right to complain.
