Police are searching for a resort worker who they claim 'kept secrets' from them during the initial investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance.
An insider has revealed officers are searching for a Portuguese man who was nearby when the three-year-old went missing while on holiday in the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
A Portuguese police source told the Daily Mirror: ‘This Portuguese man used to work at the club resort, he speaks a bit of English.

This is the Mirror report the others seem to be feeding off.  It has one additional piece of information that does not appear to have been picked up by subsidiary stories.  This alleged fact can be checked, and I'm about half way through that check now.

Due to the wording of the Mirror report, I am unclear as to whether it means the said person worked in the OC or merely in the resort of Luz.  I am getting a bit distracted by other things so I have still to sift through the candidates.

Of course, there are those on this forum who don't believe a word of this report, who believe that it is highly unlikely that a) the PJ would give a comment to UK Press and b) that it is highly unlikely that the Met are actively pursuing this lead and c) that this story probably got fed to the media by the McCanns or their associates.

My reading of it, if true, is that he was an Ocean Club worker and was there on the night that Madeleine disappeared. It is quite unbelievable that Portuguese police are still allegedly leaking this sort of information after previously stating that all enquiries would be kept confidential. They really need to review their procedures otherwise there is a serious risk that yet another inocente could end up a scapegoat for their ineptitude.

There can't be that many male resort workers who 'were nearby' and who gave a statement.  Must be one of the tapas waiters.

Or the Millenium staff, maintenance workers and people on a night off but in the village that night. None of them
"gave a witness statement two days after the girl vanished," however, so someone's got that wrong.

I don't believe they are hot on the trail of anyone.
If there's one thing that has shone through in this investigation, it it the sheer lack of urgency.

Scotland Yard have claimed nothing about the reason for the extension granted by the Home Office for Madeleine's case to be investigated.

Who is the employee who is being accused on Portuguese TV of burglarising German tourists' apartment around lunchtime on 3rd May?

I'm intrigued by the burglar, Alfie.

I would say that the practice of leaking suddenly being resumed is indicative that Scotland Yard is getting someone, somewhere rather hotter under the collar than they are comfortable with.

The pair of commentators sound so chippy, so defensive as if they themselves had been personally affronted by the Met and the McCanns - and not to mention paranoid.  Can you imagine a British ex-policeman talking on TV in such a bitter, bitchy manner about the parents of a missing child?  No class, these Portugeezers.

So it is revealed slowly but surely, there was a burglary at noon, probably by a member of staff.

Carlos Anjos...  "They cannot justify, that just because the man committed a crime of burglary at noon and since they don't have anyone else the guy of the noon robbery will do, this is wanting to place the suspect at the crime scene, this is wanting to forcefully place the blame. Wasn't that article typically Portuguese?

"Rui Pereira - Well, this is completely out of step with reality. If I believed in conspirational theories I would say that this is the reaction of the English authorities to Gonçalo Amaral's aquittal. It's a curious way to approach this situation but nothing else really explains that a new lead was followed now, when is in fact an old lead, where the indicia are incompatible with the practice of a crime committed against the child. In reality there is an assumption that is vexatious for us, that is a sort of insinuation, or presumptuousness, that our police authorities are incompetent, that our criminal police bodies don't know how to investigate this case and so on. Well, that is not in question, what is in question in this case, and we always have to return to the beginning, is: parents that were not sufficiently diligent with securing their children, toddlers practically, parents that left them to their own fate, who could have been eventually persecuted for the crime of exposure and abandonment (neglect) and weren't. Then, in question is an investigation that was extremely difficult due to lack of leads, lack of concrete evidence."

The problem is that some people here in Portugal believe that what comes out in the British press is true! Then they waste their time discussing these fabrications, which I believe come from Clarence Mitchell in order to divert the public's opinion from the SC's decision.

IMO if SY wanted a whitewash, they would have finished long ago and certainly before spending £ 11 million.

I have never seen it revealed before that there was a burglary around noon on the day that Madeleine disappeared.  But it is a big step from a nicking a bit of tourist tat to kidnapping a child don't you think?

The coincidence is in the day but little else imo.  Certainly the Portuguese police have shown little interest in this petty burglar.

You know the PJ are not investigating then? How do you know that? The PJ don't have to act on anything unless the judiciary, having evaluated any evidence offered by OG, tell them to. The judiciary will also decide whether any evidence is sufficient to justify bringing any charges. Much as you would like the Met to be in charge, they're not.

It could be significant if the burglar has a set of keys to block G5.

Burglars don't steal children.

There are many opinions but the only one that matters is the investigating police force
Is
SY
Who are looking for an abductor

Actually, they are looking for a scapegoat, dead or alive, so they can close the case and justify the £13 million they squandered.

So mere speculation.
One wonders why if SY are just looking for a scapegoat to justify the amount spent, they didn't " find" one by now and save having to ask for more money.

I would say it has little to do with speculation as the two people who were interviewed, namely,  Carlos Anjos, former PJ inspector and former head of the Criminal Investigation Officers' Union and Rui Pereira, former Minister of Internal Affairs, were both very aware of the evidence in the case.  It is extremely interesting that they discount abduction and look to the tapas group for answers.

I've never read anything at all about this burglary at noon.  Have I missed something?

I would have thought that it was a highly significant occurrence if a man had entered and walked through holiday premises uninvited on the afternoon of the same night a child was reported missing from her bed in the same complex.
I'd be surprised if it exists.  According to book-keeper Maria Goncalves, statement date 7 May 2007, part of her job was preparing reports of thefts for insurance purposes.  The last one she had done was for 5L on 16 Apr 2007.  No mention of a 3 May 2007 incident.

If they knew about it at the time I find it incredible they didn't link it to the other burglaries rife in the resort.  In particular in relation to the two known home invasions which had taken place in block 5 in the days prior to the McCann's arrival in Luz.

There was either an individual ~ a team or more than one team with the expertise to enter and exit holiday premises unobserved and without impediment apparently.

Burglars are criminals.

Whoever had a hand in taking Madeleine was a criminal.

Why have the PJ apparently covered up this guy's activities on a very significant date?  Which investigation discovered his existence ... Amaral's or Rebelo's?

Sorry, I should have added that on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is knows absolutely nothing about the case while 10 is case-expert level, I would give the show about a 1 out of 10.  I don't know what the track record of the show or the presenter is, and based on this example, I don't intend wasting my life finding out.

It is rather interesting that SY are seeking the person  who they have already questioned.  Sounds like they have been sardine munching having long naps and enjoying the golf. heehee  next new headline I am sure. Does anyone think it is incompetent of SY to spend millions only to go back to speak to someone they already spoke to? hmm AND it is costing an extra 85 thousand to do so?

By all accounts SY should be accused by the parents of not doing anything since SY have so far come up with ZILTCH.
so anyways... back to blaming Amaral for everything.

...and perhaps the parents and the tapas  and loyal fanatics, should be careful what they wish for, This very good at hiding perosn of interest may be a witness for  the 'other' side. hmmm

A reward is on offer, someone with information could make a fast buck, many bucks, and the perpetrator get arrested etc... that is how it goes .  The person who SY want to speak to could have taken his bucks and talked, will he talk without a cash offer.. hmmm I'm thinking Not.

"Numerous pages of the case file attest to this. Up to now, May 8th 2007, every lead, or opening of a lead, has been checked and it was, each time, a false lead. Like, for example, a suspicious car noticed near the Ocean Club recpetion by various witnesses. In the end, it was the service vehicle of a Club employee who had come to make an urgent repair to a door lock."

I have no idea where the original source of the information contained in the PJ files originates from.
Nuno Conceicao is not missing afaik (@ June 2016 was not in Portugal, though)

If his service vehicle was parked near the Tapas reception, then any broken door lock must have been in fairly close proximity to Block 5. Anjos referred to German tourists yet no details are in the files. It is strange that no-one else from OC refers to making a call to Nuno to attend the maintenance issue, given the time he arrived on the scene.

Yes, HC confirmed the door lock was in an apartment at the north of the resort. It does not explain why the Maintenance department apparently didn't mention this call-out to the PJ.
Why would an Ocean Club Service vehicle parked near reception have aroused the suspicion of several unrecorded witnesses?

I'm intrigued, Misty.

Why did he arrive in one vehicle to the call out ~ complete the task ~ collect a service vehicle ~ both vehicles then returning to the residence where he was when the original callout was received?

The service vehicle having been parked near the tapas.

The important sightings are those that did not occur in Luz on the third of May.  We now know of an individual who was there because of his job but who none saw ... that is one there may well be others.
At the least it is an interesting development as far as we are concerned and who knows for how long Scotland Yard have been working on it.

How do you know the Maintenance dept didn't mention it? The guy and his girlfriend openly did when interviewed. We don't know if a service vehicle was reportedly seen at reception because your first link is not part of the official files, it comes from here;

Sometimes individuals may be in possession of information which they may have no idea may be of value to an inquiry.

That is why information is collated for checking against other relevant information.

Good point Angelo for John Hill was asked if there were any prior events that could have a bearing on the case.  OK a bit of a tough question for it relied on an opinion.  "He has been employed by the Ocean Club since March 2006 and has no knowledge of any untoward situation involving Ocean Club users or in the village itself, other than some damage and minor thefts."
John Hill gives no details as to when the thefts had occurred and burglary and theft are different crimes.

The PJ have been waiting patiently for SY yard to catch up,its taken nigh on 6 yrs multi millions to recognize that an important witness was first interviewed back in 2007 and possibly needs to be heard again(according to some reports).

30 + officers were needed to go through the thousands and thousands of pages of evidence
Did GA keep up with the case?  How can one man controlling what was going on, read all the documents in 6 months, and yet it has taken a team of 30 several years to do?

He would have been working off summaries surely - GA "Did that witness have anything to add?" PJ officer: "No".   GA "OK I won't read that statement."

The PJ have been waiting patiently for SY yard to catch up,its taken nigh on 6 yrs multi millions to recognize that an important witness was first interviewed back in 2007 and possibly needs to be heard again(according to some reports).
No wonder the radio interviewer asked Hogan Howe back in April 2016 just what do 30+ officers do.
Is "waiting patiently" a good way to conduct a reinvestigation into a missing child?

That's a bit of a long winded convoluted way of saying "I do not know".
You clearly went to the Neil Kinnock School rather than The Sir Jack Brabham School of expression.
The explanation is bloody obvious though and boils down to a mathematical solution.

Sometimes individuals may be in possession of information which they may have no idea may be of value to an inquiry.

That is why information is collated for checking against other relevant information.

Indeed but the point I was making was that the man being sought is not involved in the abduction therefore would not be excluded from claiming any reward. It makes you wonder why he hasn't, doesn't it?

The comprehension of why its taken six years does not lie at this keyboard,if the latest is to be believed regarding an employee or ex employee SY may have just stumbled upon the starting line.

Words attributed to DCS Duthie April 2016"The police chief admitted detectives did not have a “full understanding” of what happened to Madeleine .”

The OP

'Police are searching for a resort worker who they claim 'kept secrets' from them during the initial investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance.
An insider has revealed officers are searching for a Portuguese man who was nearby when the three-year-old went missing while on holiday in the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
A Portuguese police source told the Daily Mirror: ‘This Portuguese man used to work at the club resort, he speaks a bit of English.'

'Kept secrets'. That certainly sounds as if he knew the value of the information sought.

Are you suggesting they are guilty of Madeliens disappearance? Their role;  based on THE original archived investigation, to which  you have already been told have primacy, is not being discussed by them. Bohahah.

The Met have no authority in Portugal, absolutely none.

To accuse the PJ of 'sitting doing nothing' is the same cr@p still emanating from the mouths of 'friends and Family' and sauces'.  It is the parents who sat and did nothing while their daughter was claimed to have been 'kidnapped' it was the parents who sat and did nothing when others were searching for their daughter.

Now then to recap: who is responsible for the well being of their children... And who placed their child in danger in the first place?

Yahhh you just won a coconut!

The thread makes the reference ... " Maddie detectives seeking resort worker."

Why on earth would they wish to do that?

In my opinion it suggests
Only in the last few days have we been made privy from Portuguese sources active in the original investigation, to information regarding yet another burglary in the resort at noon, only a few hours before Madeleine was to disappear.

If that information was  available to the investigation back in 2007 when taken in conjunction with the known at the time home invasions involving the abuse of little girls ... huge questions arise concerning more than competency.

You introduced the phrase "frothing at the mouth" on a different thread - I think the post above is a good example of such a complaint.  Get well soon!

Thank you I am very well.  8(>(( *passies the hankies to those who are so offended on behalf of others*

One of your cohorts once referred to me and jassi as "Amaral Campers".

“Like everyone in Luz he wants the mystery to be solved.

“This investigation by Scotland Yard has gone on too long. If they can’t get anywhere, they should speak to the Portuguese authorities and let them formally close it down.

“The file would be shelved again and only opened if there is a significant development. That is more fair than having a cloud of suspicion hanging over the Algarve.”

The Home Office has given the Yard’s Operation Grange team £85,000 more, to fund the four-strong team, headed by Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, who are looking into the case.

So far officers have ruled out producing an “age progression” picture of what Madeline would look like at 13 and are reluctant to hold a press conference.

But a high-ranking officer may give television and radio interviews.

Madeleine’s parents Kate, 49, and Gerry McCann, 48, a heart expert, are considering giving one television interview, possibly to Piers Morgan or ITV News presenter Mary Nightingale.

Of course not.  The PJ are utterly blameless in all and every respect.  So what is their role in this investigation again?  Just sitting back and watching and being extremely slow at granting the Met's requests?

Probably. There may be a bit of tittering occasionally, but that's pure speculation on my part.

To be serious, there are, I believe, two teams. One is investigating, the other assists OG.

Dot the I's and cross the T's.  They can't be trusted for much else.
