I have not identified any police incompetence in the initial investigation. I have however identified a concerted attempt by private investigators acting on behalf of Kennedy and the McCanns to derail the official investigation.

There was a meeting early on with the pj and grime where the pj were told the alerts themselves were not evidence.
Amaral and his team refused to accept this and took the investigation in the wrong direction

its not just opinion...the alerts are not evidence...amaral thought they proved maddie died in the apartment

The bashing began almost immediately, instigated by the McCanns, their friends and family. It was repeated by the media and those who supported the McCanns ad infinitum. In my opinion it was employed because some people think attacking is the best form of defence.

Using it, of course, leads some to see it as a defensive ploy, rather than a sincere criticism. When I recieve personal attacks on forums I see it as a sign that the people doing it are trying to discredit me in hopes of discrediting what I say. I assume that's because they have no sensible answers to what I said.

It was unprecedented imo.  What they hoped to gain from it one can only guess?

Kate McCann's book took the biscuit though, the attacks on the Portuguese police were disgraceful.

He spoke out publicly about what was happening in the case and he has been vindicated for doing so. We now know that SY have been operating with one hand tied behind their back.

in your opinion..he had no right to criticise the uk police....this coming from a man later found guilty of false testimony..perjury...in court. Why should we believe a word he says. The only thing limiting SY is the pj limiting what they can and cannot look at..limited by the PJ

What they can and can't look at - in Portugal and in accordance with Portuguese law.

Amaral is a hero for protecting his subordinates and he paid a heavy price for it.
