I don't see why living and working in Portugal would have made any difference to finding Madeleine anyway - it's a ludicrous proposition.  Say they'd both got jobs on the Algarve, how would that have helped Madeleine and the rest of their family?  Would you have them knocking on strangers' doors in their spare time and scouring wasteland with spaniel dogs, even though there is no evidence that Madeleine is even still in the Algarve?

I think by that time, it was pretty obvious to them that Madeleine was no longer in Portugal & that she hadn't been for a very long time. The whole idea of the parents personally searching through every part of Portugal, knocking on people's doors demanding to inspect their houses, is ludicrous in the extreme, apart from the fact that it would have been illegal for them even to attempt it.

Would the "reviled" McCanns have got jobs in Portugal, where the majority appears to be deeply suspicious of them (thanks to the police and media hatchet job done on them over the years)?

No chance!

ETA In fact, I think the family would have been in danger in Portugal, & there was nothing they could do in Portugal anymore that they couldn't do from the UK, hence, it was a wise & security conscious decision to leave IMO.

Yes, we saw how the hostile locals turned up  to shout things at them when they went to the police station, I can't imagine those same locals wanting to tell Kate McCann their medical problems at morning surgery.

Is that why Kate gave up being a GP as she was afraid of English people turning up at her surgery shouting abuse?  The Portuguese locals aren't the only ones who have a problem with them by the looks of it.    8(0(*

I'm sure it would have been really easy for the McCanns to get jobs in Portugal, a country where the majority of locals seemed quite hostile towards them and believed them guilty of hiding their child's body.

And in which they didn't speak the language.

Strange isn't it how Kate can speak Portuguese when it suits when addressing the Portuguese media.  They could learn just as everyone else who works abroad does.

Example please of any extended speech in Portuguese by Kate- more than a couple of parrot fashion learnt phrases.

Stop splitting hairs debunker.  Nobody mentioned 'extended speech'.  Yet again you add bits to suoit your own agenda.  Kate could speak Portuguese when it suited her...end off!!

Bait and Switch again:

You claimed:

And ISmellaRat replied:

yep quite fluent there:

Where she says a brief phrase of about ten words.

Not fluent, just parroted- as most people could do in any language with a couple of hours practice.

As far as I know they do not speak much colloquial Portuguese, and certainly not enough to practice medicine there.

Gerry has had no problem at all.

As a GP people would not have dared to abuse her as it is a certain way to be struck off the practice list.

A few more than you, judging from your ignorant remarks above. Apart from that, none of your business.

So you don't speak any other tongues but English

But you're quite prepared to be the resident linguist?

laughable

No, I claim no such thing -  though must admit that I find it quite amusing that you assume English is my first language.

Laughable, even....

The McCanns have been asked about the reward several times but they refuse to answer.  They are very happy to take money from the public but offer little in return which says it all for me.  Their loftiness is appalling to behold!!

As for working in Portugal, get a job as a f..king labourer if it helps you to search for your child.  The excuses being put forward as to why they couldn't have stayed and worked in Portugal are pathetic.  Look at what the Fitzpatrick family have gone through to look for their daughter, they put the McCanns to shame.

Has any family ever remained in another country when a child has been abducted?

Needhams and Fitzpatricks for a start, they are to be admired for their efforts on the ground.   They didn't run trot off home as soon as they could like the McCanns did.

True, let's get back on track. The NOTW reward surely must be consider dropped due to closure, but then again, wouldn't NI be responsible for any undertakings made by NOTW despite the fact that they are no longer in business?

IIRC the Needhams were already resident in Greece when it hapened.

How long did the Fitzpatricks stay?

It seems the Fitzpatricks were also resident abroad when it happened.

So both families stayed were they were before the disappearances.

There goes your argument then!

The Fitzpatrick mother and stepfather were resident in Spain. as was Amy.
