So... if they had demonstrated their innocence to the satisfaction of the Portuguese would they have been cleared

As i have said to you before had their innocence been demonstrated either directly or indirectly then they would have been cleared of involvement.

But there has been no evidence forthcoming which is why their status in Portugal remains the same.

Think whatever you like of me.  I don't really care.  I shall keep my opinion of you to myself.

Good! Thanks once again for your input on this thread, it's been truly enlightening.

Yes, if their innocence had been demonstrated either directly or indirectly how could they be involved?

So you say they would have been cleared...but at 2.25 you posted

But only a criminal court can "clear" people. So if there has been no criminal case, how can they be cleared?

You have totally contradicted yourself.

Let me run you through it again.

The police rule suspects out by that suspects ability to demonstrate their innocence.

The easiest way to explain it is like this.

If the police had knocked on my door and said where were you on 3rd May 2007, i could have produced evidence that i was in Mallorca at the time, showing my passport and flight information.

I would therefore have demonstrated my innocence to the investigation.

If an abductor is found and evidence is brought before a court that he was responsible then the McCann's would have their innocence demonstrated by a third party being found guilty.

So there would then be clear evidence they were not involved.

Are you following me now?

No one is following you because you don't make any sense. First you say only a court can clear someone after a criminal case and then you say the MccCAnns could have been cleared without even being charged. you have made a complete idiot of yourself and still you don't understand what you are claiming.

so albertini has logged off because he has proved himself wrong. If the McCanns had made these statements he would be calling them liars.

It is not my fault you don't understand the difference between a judicial clearance and an investigative one.

Come back to me when you know the difference.

P.S. I will be going in 5 minutes to play football if that's ok with you.

As much as you so wish that was true, it isn't, and as usual you display a disturbing lack of clarity of thought.
