the way the press and TV (particularly ITV) covered the case very much made it our business.
Certainly, taxpayers have the right to know how their money is spent and citizens if law is respected in their country and justice a really independent entity.

Certainly; they also have the responsibility to do this avoiding libel, harassment, invasion of liberty and family life. They can do this by lobbying their MP rather than emoting foully on the internet.

Legally it did not. You are just an ordinary citizen and have no special right to discuss in public the possible illegalities of another person. People are just using the internet as a way to get round libel and harassment charges- I suspect this will stop after a few more McAlpines.

I couldn't care less what happens to some of the idiots discussing the case elsewhere. But you'll never stop those who are discussing it sensibly, because as we all know there simply has never been a case like this. It's plain why people are fascinated by it, and I don't see that stopping anytime soon.

There have been others- Lindy Chamberlain, Jo Lees (both in Australia) and other witch hunting stories in the UK press.

I think it will shrivel if the McCanns take the next logical step and take out twitter with a similar threat to Forums.

Two years ago it was doubtful that English Law could bring to book people using the internet for harassment and bullying on sites hosted elsewhere.

I live in hope that CR will be instructed to do a McAlpine and clear out the sewers.

They could have done that, if they were that way inclined, just a couple of months ago, but it'll be a darn sight more difficult now after Crimewatch.

But as I say that won't stop the case being discussed by the sensible.

Why do you say that?

I suspect they will wait until after the Amaral trial is over, and whichever way that goes, it will open the door to a McAlpine campaign. He has shown that it is possible to take on the trolls.

Sure, they have the power, but the ringleaders have lots of buddies now when just a couple of months ago they were talking to themselves.

But people will still discuss the case whatever happens to that lot.

Well said. Look at the JFK assassination - it's the 50th anniversary this month and people still discuss it all over the internet.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

What makes you think that the [ censored word] are more together now. My analysis is that the Crimewatch and Met have introduced more Shiboleths and that there considerable 'splitting' on [ censored word ] sites.

I've no idea what they're up to, I just know after Crimewatch there's a lot more members now in the groups run by the ringleaders we all know. A heck of a lot more.

That's true pathfinder. Huge cases like this one will always be discussed won't they. They still discuss the Lindbergh case from 1932!

8((()*/ Very true, Anne I think. That's another reason why Rupert Murdoch doesn't like it.

I suspect that if Amaral wins the McCanns, or more specifically the fund, will have little money left in it to sue anyone.
Brietta posted on 10/04/2022 “But whether or not that is the reason behind the delay I am certain that Brueckner's trial is going to take place.”

Let’s count the months, shall we?

The Lindbergh case haunted my infancy, I remember, in a house by the sea, looking at a certain window with beating, tapping, rapping shutters and imagining a shadow suddenly hiding the moonlight.. Now it's back because actually the Lindbergh baby wasn't abducted !
