Are Watergate Bay Hotel breaking the law?

As far as I am aware - and I say when I started posting that I am retired - there is no law covering that point.  But ultimately every choice comes down to the choice of the parents in the end

Difficult one - I certainly think Social Services would be involved.  The guidance (and incidentally, whatever is offered, it is up to the parents to decide what they think is best for their children) says: "parents are advised to check on their children" so there would no doubt be questions about how often the children were checked up on, whether or not the monitoring service was working OK, whether or not the door was left unlocked etc.

In the McCanns case it seems social sevices were involved and we have no evidence that they were not happy with the mCcANNS  arrangements. Certainly6 you would agree that Edwards claim that they would be prosecuted in the uk is total rubbish

Social Services involved?  Come on!  If there was any chance of this then the baby listening service would be illegal. And it clearly isn't.

Oh dear, I am so having to repeat myself!

We do not know what has been the involvement of Social Services with the McCanns - it is always confidential.  Prosecution is not "total rubbish", but it is always a last resort.  Other actions would be considered first - I have outlined them before, parenting classes, Child Protection Register etc.  And we do not know whether those actions have ben taken.  What I am sure of is that action of some sort would have been taken if it had happened here - but not necessarily prosecution

See my last post - not necessarily prosecuted but that does not mean action of some sort would not be taken.

This getting wearisome repeating the same thing over and over, so I think I will opt out now.  I have explained as clearly as I can - if it is not clear enough - too bad

Pardon me, but isn't this breathtaking hypocrisy?  It's saying it's ok that they did something that WOULD have had them prosecuted in this country because they did it in a country where they didn't break the law.

That's WOULD have been prosecuted...in capital letters  that's what I am saying is total rubbish

im sorry but if you read the posts properly you nor I would have to repeat ourselves

You haven't explained why Social Services would investigate the parents if their child was abducted whilst using the listening service in dave's link.

Or why they may have to attend parenting classes after using a perfectly legal service advertised by a hotel.

Hypothetical question seeing as no child has been abducted from a hotel with a baby listening service...unless you know of one.....a busy hotel complex usually enclosed with guests and staff coming and going  24/7 well lit, is hardly the same thing  as a dark unlocked private apartment right on the very quiet  main road where any tom dick or harry could access.. Perspective hey?

Bennett brought a private prosecution against the McCanns for 'neglect' that failed ...

Indeed he did.  Just like he tried to serve papers on Michael Barrymore when he meddled in the Stuart Lubbock case.

He failed miserably with both these attempted prosecutions.

If I was to say, "the McCanns should have been locked up for child neglect for leaving their kids in danger," then we all know what answer we will get from the McCann fanclub, "they didn't break any laws as the Portuguese system requires INTENT to harm so there!"

Pardon me, but isn't this breathtaking hypocrisy?  It's saying it's ok that they did something that WOULD have had them prosecuted in this country because they did it in a country where they didn't break the law.

How do you live with yourselves using that kind of "logic"?  Let alone then trying to take the moral high ground in saying anyone doubting the word according to the McCanns is a "[ censored word ]", "p......", "unempathetic" or worse.

Simple. I obey the laws of the country where I currently am. For example it is against the law to do certain things in Dubai openly, such as kissing a girlfriend, which I would find perfectly normal here in the UK.

And not only am I certain that the actions of the McCanns were not illegal in Portugal, I don't believe that any prosecution of them would have succeeded in a similar situation in the UK either.

Yes... you're the main one I was aiming at. I find your attitude towards this and obvious moral stance questionable to say the least. And yet I bet it wouldn't take me long to find posts by you criticising Amaral's morals somehow...
