In hot countries, people have a tendency to have white cars and to close them well to keep them cool.

A closed car is hotter inside than an open one if stationary and in full sunlight.  The McCanns had nowhere to shade their hire car from the sun thus the need to air it constantly.  Residents have the luxury of a garage or a car port which they use to keep their car reasonably cool.  Had the anonymous woman had the manners and taken the time to speak to her new neighbours she might have learned the real reason why the tailgate was usually open.  But no, it had to be turned into some conspiracy.

No, I've never found the statement.

But I reckon it was a corruption of a statement that is in the file where a bag of meat burst open in the boot, the meat went off and did leave a bit of a smell that took a while to disperse.

As I recall, it was relatives of Kate and Gerry who record that episode.

That's not my understanding of my previous post quoting what he stated in an interview. There is also his "we, policemen, experts..." line (which I don't have to hand, but which is along similar lines). As he was convinced that the DNA in the boot came from a Madeleine's postmortem body fluids, the only explanation he could think of (or that he accepted) was that she had been frozen and had started to thaw.

Do they have large freezers in these holiday apartments then?   As I am assuming the Mc's would have had to recover the body from wherever they had hidden it,   to freeze her in apartment 5a?     Or are you suggesting they took her from the freezer in 5a to a freezer in the other apartment, or left her hidden wherever she was and then retrieved her when they were in the new apartment when they had the eyes of the world on them,   or did they ask a kind friend to retrieve her body and  store her in their freezer for them?

The only reference to that hypothesis is in the McCannfiles along with other false allegations,   such as blood on the window sill matching Madeleine's  etc.

In my opinion this was all speculation pathfinder.

Way before the files were released, there was a leak that Eddie had alerted in a church in Praia da Luz. 

I recall reading (I think) in The Times an interview the paper had somehow managed to secure with an (unnamed) PJ officer who commented on this.

He said: Of course the dog alerted in the church.  There are funerals in the church ...

No trees capable of providing summer shade.  The car in the picture below is parked more or less where the Scenic was parked.  Something I did notice however is that the car couldn't be seen from the public road when parked 'inside' the compound as in the picture.  So looks like the neighbour was being nosey after all.
