I have found, in June 2013, in the first volumes of the Polícia Judiciária Files, that a man is referenced who: (a) was living near the 5A apartment, (b) was living near the location where the Smith family saw the suspect, (c) had a previous record for theft, (d) was an Ocean Club employee, (e) was not working between 09:00 pm and 11:00 pm on May 3rd. 2007, (f) might know well the Ocean Club apartments, (g) was in the zone at 11:00 pm on May 3rd. 2007, and (h) was in the zone at the time Madeleine was abducted (confirmed by his mobile phone records). The block 5 (where the 5A apartment is) had a theft on 5L on April 17th. 2007, and an intent of theft on G5 (5G) on approximately April 26th. 2007. That is, 17 and 7 days before the abduction of Madeleine. Was this man already investigated and ruled out? "

Have they, I wonder, checked the phones of these men for the dates of the previous break ins?   Would be interesting to see, not only if they pinged close to the apartments broken into, but also if their Modus Operandi of phoning each other, happened on that/those occasions too

Wouldn't prove anything on its own, but would possibly be a minor pointer if the MO was similar

Scotland Yard is to begin questioning four formal suspects in the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, ITV News understands.

It happened close to home. I have houses close to OC-PDL, and my family took direct part in the searches. My uncle and aunt paid a weeks wages for their employees to keep on the searches, my younger brother, a CEO, wasted three or four days without sleep...

But for me the case was resolved when the parents decided to flee after being named arguidos.

It is opinions such as yours posted here which tend to show the Algarve in a very poor light; profit and tourist euros reign supreme; it has become increasingly obvious that the collateral damage to individual families tolerated by the Portuguese authorities was preferable to finding people intent on preying on children in their own beds.

I can assure you that is a very, very bad advert for tourism.
A dedicated concerted effort at stamping out such outrages would have played so much better in a family orientated market - it amazes me that people with several properties in Portugal are blind to that.

Diplomacy of any kind would seem to be something entirely lacking in the Portuguese and ex pats of your acquaintance.
