no interest but you seem to have a background in accountancy....his fund would be a very good way to launder money

Are you suggesting that the donations are of criminal or illegal  origin?

I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

Or maybe not -

LOL I never thought of that ... I've been going with the images of school children giving up their pocket money and dear white haired old pensioners making the decision to send their pension money and to blazes with buying food for the cat, too many birds around anyway.

The thing is, no-one could argue one way or the other because we simply do not know because no-one has bothered to publish any information at all ... so if Goncalo Amaral could state that Madeleine's fund was fraudulent ... surely he would want to ensure there was no room for doubt in the Goncalo Amaral fund.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

How would I know?
I assume the professional Googlers on this site will turn it up in no time flat.
My point was unless someone has tried to obtain the accounts and been told "p**s of Sooty" or had been completely unable to find a way in, then any remark about transparency or lack of is a little unconvincing.
On a personal level I don't give a monkeys if both funds are spent on fast women and slow horses.
So, we don't even know top line detail such as who manages the Amaral fund or their addresses, unlike the Madeleine Fund? How utterly opaque!

Both are quite clear in so far as what you need to know before you hand your money over.
Where is the problem with that?

Hate to repeat myself particularly on the same day ... but African princes don't send out statements or receipts either ... just information about where to send their next pay cheque.

So if people are happy with that situation that is entirely their concern ... but a bit less interest in and comment on the Madeleine fund would be more even handed and a bit less hypocritical.

The McCanns were criticised for the way they started the fund but it's easy to see why they took such an official route...accountability...

No on knows how much amaral has had or where it has come from...I hope the revenue in Portugal look at it...as I have said....it is  a money launderers paradise

I haven't been counting but perhaps admin will put in a counter so we always have the same number of posts bashing Amaral as those that bash the McCanns honours even  8(>((

I don't have a problem with any of it, just pointing out that as far as the transparency competiton is concerned, the Madeleine Fund beats the Unca Ammy Fund hands down. ?>)()<

Legal defense fund

Excerpts:-

In the United States, a legal defense fund (or LDF) is an account set up to pay for legal expenses, which can include attorneys' fees, court filings, litigation costs, legal advice, or other legal fees. The fund can be public or private and is set up for individuals, organizations, or for a particular purpose. These funds are often used by government public officials, civil rights organizations, and public interest organizations.

Legal defense funds often have large membership counts where the members contribute to the fund. The fund sometimes is or operates like a law firm, where teams of attorneys provide legal services through litigation.[1] Contrary to the name, attorneys working for legal defense funds both file and defend lawsuit. Unlike legal financing from legal financing companies, legal defense funds provide a separate account for litigation rather than a one-time cash advancement, though both are used for purposes of financing litigation and legal costs.

Civil rights legal defense funds are non-profit organizations that use legal services to advance civil rights. They often provide legal assistance, advocacy, litigation support, and public education to increase gender and racial equality.[9] Common issues include equality in the workplace, equality in education, immigration rights, voting rights, and violence prevention.[10]

Civil and political rights are a class of rights that protect individuals' freedom from infringement by governments, social organizations, and private individuals, and which ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the society and state without discrimination or repression.

Although nonprofit organizations are permitted to generate surplus revenues, they must be retained by the organization for its self-preservation, expansion, or plans.[6] NPOs have controlling members or a board of directors. Many have paid staff including management, whereas others employ unpaid volunteers and even executives who work with or without compensation (occasionally nominal).[7] Where there is a token fee, in general, it is used to meet legal requirements for establishing a contract between the executive and the organization.
