Being as close to the children as possible, would have involved eating in their respective apartments,or of course employing babysitters as is common practice in this country.
Many caring parents would never consider employing a stranger, or near stranger, to baby sit their chikldren.

I wouldn't

I feel sorry for today's mothers who seem to miss out on so much in their children's early years. For the first four years of their lives my children were cared for by me. I taught them what they needed to know, was present at every milestone and new experience, gave them consistent rules and knew exactly where every bump and bruise came from.

In the evenings I would use babysitters because I was also a wife and my husband and I needed time together too. As a military family our family and friends were far away, so babysitters were often teenagers, but in case of emergency they could get help from their own mothers or from any neighbour. That always worked fine.

Fortunately for my granddaughter, it is common practice in this country too, at least among the Brits.

She can earn a pretty penny in the festive season by babysitting for those who wish to wine and dine in convivial company.

She has no relevant qualifications whatsoever, but her word-of-mouth recommendations are excellent.

By the same token many caring parents would do, have done and no doubt will continue to do so.

So nothing about kids left in rooms in the reservation book?
Well we don't get to see the Sunday or the Monday booking sheet.
Tues, Weds, thurs, sheets are there.
Why we would have a page showing the Water slide bookings is not yet explained.

Are you reading the same Robitty quote as i am?

Robitty quote:
http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/LUISA_COUTINHO.htm

=snip-
During this interview she provided a book with the reservations for the Tapas restaurant." and she mentions the reasons why the Tapas group wanted the block booking.
"The man justified his request by saying that the group had many small children whom they would leave alone when they went to dine. She said that at intervals some two parents would go to the apartments to see if everything was OK."
-snip-

As we already know that there was a written note about the children being on their own and the parents wanting to check them regularly, the word "mentions" obviously means mentions [written] in the Reservation book.

But have we found out yet if that was written in Portuguese or in English?

We sdtill dont know if it was written in Portuguese or in English
Rachel  - was she able to speak Portuguese so it might have been in Portuguese.
"Mentions" could be spoken or written.

From Rachel's statement 15/5/07

On the 29th, 30th, April, 1st, 2nd and 3rd May they always dined at the Tapas restaurant.

On Monday they were told that there was no room for all of them in the restaurant, but they obtained a special favour from a waiter and all dined together. In order to obtain this favour they said that the children were asleep and that they could not move anywhere else. For this reason, from this day onwards they would reserve a space in the restaurant (for the adults) for the following day.

That on the five consecutive nights they dines at the Tapas restaurant they always followed the same ritual.

They would always begin dinner at 8.30, after the children were asleep. If one of them hadn't fallen asleep, one member of the couple would stay until the child had fallen asleep and as soon as that happened, would go and join the others.

This happened to ROB on Tuesday evening and he did not manage to have dinner, his partner Jane Tanner brought him his dinner in his room.

On Wednesday evening the witness did not go for dinner because she was feeling ill and spent the day in the apartment.

On Thursday evening, for the same reason, ROB went to dinner ten minutes late.

===================================================================

If I understand this correctly, according to RO, they did not block book.

They ate at the Tapas 'on the 29th, 30th, April, 1st, 2nd and 3rd May'.

It seems on the 29th they managed to eat together with no problem.

On the 30th April they had a problem, but overcame the issue and ate at the Tapas.

For the next three days they booked a table.

The booking sheets in the files are for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of May, so this ties up with RO's statement.

Where does this leave the statement of Luisa Coutinho?

We don't know there was a written note, it seems to be a widely held belief but no one has yet produced the proof.

I think it can be made sense of, except for which day it happened.

A group go to book the table (Russell says there were a few of them, not just Rachael).
Rachael makes the request and is told they're full, so she begs.
A 'waiter' becomes involved; probably not a waiter but the Tapas supervisor, Tiago Barreiros.
He decides to contact the catering dept to see if it's OK to exceed the allocated covers (hence 'Steve' authorising it)
While he's busy doing that, one of the men gets involved and 'insists' on the booking being made for the week and mentions the child checking to the receptionist.
Rachael doesn't know that the man has managed to get the booking for the week, so assumes someone booked every day thereafter.

When the table was reserved, nothing was mentioned about checking on the children and the only concern was in accommodating the entire group.

I wonder if Kate still has the file that shows this note?

Why should she have it unless you'r suggesting as mentioned up thread that as an arguido she would have a copy,in which case what of GM and RM not forgetting the other four that SY mistakenly thought were something to do with it,do they also get to see all of the first investigation files?

Yet they left their kids at the creche during the daytime,  and the staff there, I believe,  we're used as babysitters.
Totally different scenario steven.

Creche
2-3 strangers to several children in unlocked premises, with parents and other staff likely to pop in regularly and spasmodically too.        ~ So little chance of abuse

Baby sitting
One stranger to one [in this case 3] child, in an environment that is locked up and private, with no-one likely to pop in.   The stranger will know where the parents are and their timetable
~ So plenty of opportunities for abuse.

I suspect that you already know this, but prefer to "forget" it.
