(Madeleine) May 3rd 2007.

It takes a modicum of intelligence to understand why that event would have been traumatic for Madeleine's parents, a trauma magnified by being falsely accused, of responsibility for her disappearance, for a 'cover-up', and of launching a fraudulent 'fund' in their (asserted as 'fact') 'dead' daughter's name ...

Madeleine was the primary victim. If it had been a possession that was stolen then they would have been the victims.

When were they abducted?

Is that what now passes for informed debate or comment on the forum?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Is the light (slowly) dawning that Madeleine was abducted?

Progress of sorts, if so.

It maybe takes a while longer to develop the quality of compassion for the trauma experienced by the parents (and extended family) of an abducted child ....

The title of the thread: anyone would think that her article contains something that hasn't been said before ....

Madeleine is entitled to the right to be looked for without let or hindrance as long as there are active lines of inquiry to be followed.

The opprobrium directed at her parents helps Madeleine exactly how??

Little people with small minds with access to a column in a tabloid excoriating her parents helps Madeleine in what way?

Unfortunately there have always been those who enjoy a good witch hunt ... but the stamina and the mindset to keep it up for almost nine years must take some beating.

This may be fun and games to some ... but another anniversary ... and another birthday without their eldest child is fast approaching for the McCann family.  Most normal people can have a little bit of understanding of how that must be for them ... the others are just a lost cause and not really worth bothering about.

She was looked for, extensively.

Nothing has been found then or now.

As to the mccanns being without their eldest child, start by blaming them for what they did wrong.

I think you will find those people believe by leaving Maddie they exposed her to abduction

Unlike those who think leaving your children alone in an unlocked apartment and letting people know you've done so isn't stupid beyond belief. The fact that they are 'educated medical professionals' and not 'dysfunctional council tenants' makes it even more unbelievable. In fact some don't believe they actually did that.

Please give examples of people "spewing bile against Madeleine".

NO!!!  If you are really that interested ... google it yourself.

Agreed. Our youngest son was assaulted many years ago by a drunken lout.
He quickly recovered physically and was not traumatized at all by the incident.
Victim support visited our home, not for him but for me.
They visited several times to help me recover from the incident.

Deal with the failings of others as gently as with your own.

You implied it was in the Mail's comment section on the current article.

I haven't bothered to read the current section in the Mail ... I have read it all before.

Where do you see any such implication in my post which said ...

"She 'rattles my cage' not one bit ... I haven't been taken in by her.  Can you give just one instance when Ms Hopkins has shown any self restraint in 'speaking out' about anyone or anything she thinks may add to her notoriety.

There is a market and an audience for those who wish to spew bile against Madeleine and the McCann family ... Ms Hopkins has merely tapped into it."

I think there may be something lacking in your English language comprehension skills if you read any 'implication' there.

The McCanns may or may not be innocent of a crime connected with the disappearance of their daughter. Many people think they were guilty of the crime of neglect, however. Had the disappearance occurred in the UK they may well have faced more problems with that than they did under Portuguese law.

Some have managed to ignore all the strange aspects of this case and have spent years castigating those who have noticed them. Those claiming the high moral ground in this debate seem unable to grasp that they are defending what others see as indefensible. Claiming the high moral ground is a tactic, just like referring to unrelated cases and ad hominem attacks are tactics.

Why won't you criticize the mccanns for what they failed to do.

How about her calling a police officer merely doing his job a 'f#####g t####r' or the mccanns calling other officers 'tweedledum  and tweedledee' ?

After 3 months of clutching it in hot and sweaty hands, even sun cream is unlikely to have been the dominant smell.

Eddie picked precious CC out of a bin at the villa. Not so precious it seems unless a camera was present.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.
