On the 10th anniversary, should the McCanns plaster Luz with posters?

Just because they can?

And just so you get an inkling of my thoughts, I am seriously considering more posters on display in Luz for the 10th anniversary.  Just not sourced by the McCanns.  I'm thinking more originated in Luz here.

I need to disappear for a while now.  There is a venue in Luz holding the wake for one of Luz's own.  It has nothing to do with the Madeleine story.

But who knows if it becomes a part of the 10th anniversary.  Bar Carib.

Why would Madeleine's parents feel the need to plaster Luz with posters of Madeleine?

I think the whole point of their drive for publicity was
  • to keep Madeleine in the public eye since with the archiving of her case they were the only ones working to find out what had happened to her
  • the hope that someone's memory might be jogged or someone's conscience might have been pricked to divulge information they may have been sitting on
  • to keep up the pressure on the authorities in Britain and Portugal to re-open Madeleine's case

Bearing in mind that the latest exercise in objecting to and attempting to disrupt the search for Madeleine did not consist of defacing posters publicising the child ... it consisted of hateful attacks on the British police who were actively investigating her disappearance and obviously considered part of the 'McCann Circus'.

The resulting defilement of walls and road signs in Luz was a home grown Luz initiative in its entirety.

Madeleine's parents have been successful in
  • seeing the success of their efforts in having Madeleine's case reopened by the British and Portuguese authorities ... resulting in the best effort since her disappearance into solving what happened to her
What has been less successful perhaps, has been
  • any chance of information being forthcoming from those in Luz who simply cannot help because they know nothing since they do not number kidnappers and criminals among their acquaintances
  • pricking the conscience of anyone who might ~ although until the investigation reaches a conclusion hopefully a successful one ~ we don't know that someone hasn't come forward

I don't know what Madeleine's parents will choose to do for Madeleine on the tenth anniversary of her disappearance which surely will be a poignant landmark for everyone who loves her.
Whatever it is ... they can rest easy in the knowledge that over the past ten years they have done everything humanly possible to find her ... in the face of opposition of the type of recent years from those who have done all in their power to thwart their efforts on her behalf.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

10 out of 10 for the McCann parents, if you believe all you have posted.

But with the 10th anniversary approaching, what is the smart McCann-parent move?

Around the 2nd anniversary, it was billboards and posters.  Which obviously did not work.

Something smarter is needed on the 10th, methinks.

Perhaps you'd like to tell us all what you think the McCanns should be doing on the 10th anniversary of their child's disappearance?  Clearly their actions to date in this department don't meet with your approval at all, so tell us what would?  Perhaps we can then draft instructions to be forwarded to them at the earliest available opportunity so that they can start planning to put them into action?

If you have contact with the McCanns, then yes.  If you don't, then no.

I thought you weren't in favour of putting up more posters in Luz?

I still think identifying Smithman is crucial to this enquiry yet only the Sun newspaper ever did anything about it.

14 October 2013

THE Sun helped the hunt for Madeleine yesterday by distributing flyers and
posters in Praia da Luz with the e-fit of police’s latest suspect.

Leaflets in English and Portuguese were handed out by our team at the resort,
urging anyone with any information to contact Scotland Yard.

Local businesses were pleased to display our appeals. Shop assistant Elane
Harvey said: “Hopefully it will do some good. We’re happy to put these up.”

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

I think there should be an updated photo of Madeleine.

Then another appeal put out and for anyone who thinks they know anything at all to be given the chance to anonymously reveal what they know.

That would seem sensible.

If the McCanns win their Supreme Court appeal they will have funds to spend to mark the anniversary. If not......

They will be marking the anniversary in their hearts, probably in much the same way as they do every day of their lives which passes without her, or the knowledge of what happened to her or where she is.

They don't need funds to do that ... it is a way of life for them and the rest of her family ... particularly her grandparents.

I don't know exactly what would be an appropriate public response to make to the ten years since Madeleine was discovered to be missing from her bed.

Nor do I think there is any 'smart' move for Madeleine's parents to make on the approach to ~ on the day of ~ and the days and perhaps years following ~ the tenth anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance.

Madeleine's case was archived in July 2008 because of ...

"lack of evidence that any crime was committed by the persons placed under formal investigation." Fernando Jose Pinto Monteiro, Portuguese Attorney General
http://content.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1825242,00.html

Immediately prior to the shelving of what appears to have been an investigation concentrating on proving parental guilt and not on locating Madeleine ... and until her parents were able to convince the authorities to review her case ... no-one was looking for Madeleine McCann.

The situation has now changed and does not reflect a situation in which no-one in authority neither here nor in Portugal was taking the bother to keep her case going.
Indeed, had it not been for the revelation at the libel trial that incoming information to the shelved inquiry was being filed as 'not relevant' ... Ricardo Paiva's testimony in 2010 ... the true extent of the continuing negligence might never have reached the public domain.

The present ~ active ~ investigation appears to be concentrating efforts on Madeleine and strangers to her and her family.

We have absolutely no idea what their continuing lines of inquiry may or may not be.  But you can be sure Madeleine's parents are in the loop.

Therefore, perhaps a low key flower type ceremony in Luz just to mark the occasion, organised by residents with invited guests representing the Policia Judiciaria and Scotland Yard might be the way forward in showing the residents of Portugal that there is co-operation between the law enforcement agencies, verifying that the McCanns are very much in the clear.

Who knows ... something like that assurance could bring results in encouraging people to come forward who didn't before.

What a supremely cynical post.

Just the unvarnished, unsentimental truth. If they lose the case the Fund will be swallowed up by the Portuguese Courts, allegedly. Any marking of the anniversary will have to be done on a small budget.
