John Hill's account fits with the evidence. It's no use trying to blame the OC, it doesn't wash. There are too many unanswered questions.  The only people shouting abduction were the McCanns.

If their friends believed them why did they run around PdL like headless chickens searching for Madeleine?
If Matt believed them why did he (allegedly) let himself be fobbed off by the receptionist?
If the MW employees believed them why did they mobilise crowds to search the resort?
If the McCanns were so sure why didn't they ring the police themselves?
If they didn't know the number they could have taken their mobiles to the Tapas and enlisted the help of Portuguese staff there.

Had it been my daughter I would have taken responsibility for getting the help I needed instead of relying on friends or ringing the UK.

My apologies in advance Gunit, but you cant possibly know how you would react to such an horrendous situation.  Your mind would be turning cartwheels, and you would do the best you could in the circumstances.

I hate hearing people talking as you did.  It shows absolutely no empathy.

Are we allowed to say the crime scene was staged.  I'm sure the OC bosses and Goncalo have said or implied they thought the crime scene was staged.

A staged crime scene ?

Perhaps you should explain what you mean by that.

If  the Police are not notified until 10:42 then OC reception has let MM down.
But as I said earlier the statements can be read in a different way showing that for some reason the police had been called earlier and they were waiting for a response.  The 10:41 call then becomes a call back later, and the 10:52 call confirmation to the base that the first patrol had arrived.

OK, so some people seek comfort from their nearest and dearest in moments of extreme trauma, cry, kick scream, do whatever it takes to vent their feelings and some like yourself "take control" and  swan about being super efficient and cool as - clearly you are the superior being.  Well done you.

I can assure you that I haven't reached the age I have without going through very testing times, so I do know how I'd react.

Unfortunately none of the T9 seem to have been like me. They needed someone who could think clearly in an emergency but none of them seemed able to do it.

A staged crime scene ?

Perhaps you should explain what you mean by that.
It was a phrase or something similar that has been used by the PJ (Tavares and Goncalo, and just about all the senior OC management saying "there was no sign of a break-in" or such like.
What it meant to the PJ seemed to allow them to point the finger back at the parents in the sense "they killed the child but staged it to look like an abduction".  That is only one possible option.  I think good detective work should have allowed them to explore other options that would give a similar appearance (scene) and result (MM missing).

One phase I read yesterday in my research was either Gerry or John Hill saying to a reporter that "Madeleine could have been taken by someone with "good intentions"".  An abductor with "good intentions"  now that will make you think?
But if it was possible for them to say this what did they imply at the time?

It has been my desire to show that Madeleine was abducted with good intentions.  It was rather confirming that they thought along these lines to begin with too.  I should have kept the reference but I have a feeling if I Google Madeleine McCann and "good intentions" I'll find it again. (Its not always that easy!)

Even Clarence stated there was no evidence of a break-in.

Gerry was there at 10:41. Pamela Fenn said she offered Gerry her phone to call the police before that time (around 10:30). If he wanted helicopters there then why did he refuse that offer. Who cares if they call them twice or ten times just get them here. No police were there when Pamela Fenn offered to help. GNR first arrived around 11pm.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

A much more polite response to G-Unit than mine would have been.

But you are bang-on right, Sadie.

Even Clarence stated there was no evidence of a break-in.
But that could just mean the abductor entered via an unlocked door.  But my argument then is "why were the windows opened and the shutters raised?"  Secondary escape route has been a suggestion but I'm sure there could be other reasons.
I think the lack of break in signs slowed the response of the OC management to declare the scene an abduction scene.

An early report in "The Telegraph" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1550571/Three-year-old-feared-abducted-in-Portugal.html says spokesman for OC said:
Quote
“We are all hoping that she is asleep under a bush somewhere and we will find her soon.”
Clearly showing they thought she was in the gardens somewhere.  Taken out of her bed but left in the gardens. Is this a possibility? Why would someone do that?

I do think if a third party found a child left asleep in the gardens they might take her away with "good intentions".  Who would leave a girl abandoned asleep under some bushes?  Maybe most of us would for we wouldn't want to be implicated in any way.  It is a tricky situation that has been demonstrated many times, people will not get involved if they can help it.

The earliest report of the GNR arriving is 10:50 PM.

Where is that?

Subject: Searches carried out in relation to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

I Situation.

1. On 3rd May at about 22.40 the Lagos GNR post was contacted by telephone and informed about the disappearance of an English girl, Madeleine McCann, aged 3, who was on holiday with her family at the OC, Block 5, apartment 5A, P da L, Lagos.

2. This situation immediately led to the deployment to P da L of members of the GNR emergency patrol, consisting of officers José Maria Batista Roque and Neslon Filipe Pacheco da Costa, who, at the moment the communication was received, were in the Odeaxere area and who immediately left for the OC, where they arrived at 23.00, with the aim of finding out about the situation.
