The link was in answer to the claim that the German state had an 80% conviction rate which was , in itself, off topic but I don’t have a problem if it’s removed. The point’s been made.

Interesting article about miscarriages of justice in Germany.

https://hammeltranslations.com/2020/02/20/review-of-the-judge-and-his-victim-on-miscarriages-of-justice-in-germany/

Some very interesting snippets in there. The German police, it appears, don't record interviews with witnesses;

"During an average police interrogation, the detective will ask questions, take notes, and then record the result in a “memory transcript” (Gedächtnisprotokoll)."

Criminal trials are also not recorded;

"Another stunning fact is that serious criminal trials before regional courts are also not recorded — judges merely prepare a summary of what happened, based on their notes."

It seems to me that once you are in the hands of the German criminal justice system you are at the mercy of police officer's and judge's memories and opinions. Maybe that's why up 25% of convictions are thought to be miscarriages of justice.

Did you actually read the article... It says ONE judge... Who is a critic of the German justice system says

up to 1/4 (g) of all criminal convictions in Germany might be wrongful...

That doesn't mean up to 25%  are thought to be miscarriages of justice... Your understanding is spectacularly poor imo

Rest assured the ground is being laid here and now for Brückner being the victim of a wrongful conviction shoud he ever be charged and found guilty of Madeleine’s abduction.

We also know why the German conviction rate is so high. There's no way to check what was said between police officers and suspects, and no record of the evidence given in court. That makes appeals almost impossible and is probably why they're allowed only if new evidence is found.

The UK conviction rate is similarly high, why is that then?

There are certainly people here who are far more concerned about his rights than ever were about the McCanns’ rights.  Very strange...

Brueckner has been held in solitary 23 hours a day for the past however many months.

The worst that happened to the McCanns was a policeman drove too fast & Kate didn't get offered a cup of tea.

The McCanns weren't banged up. Brückner is entitled to justice regardless of the monster he is.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
