I believe the 'lie detector'   is a myth xtina,   Gerry was asked about it during an interview and he said they weren't asked to take a lie detector test they haven't got them in Portugal.

The pills you are talking about are probably the ones left by Kate's father who has Parkinson's disease.

they have them in the UK

IMO the bottom line is that if K&G had sedated the twins - then there is no way they would have deliberately brought up the subject of possible drug use with anyone - and definitely not with the PJ.

IMO by drawing attention to the possibility of sedation with the PJ  -  they did the complete opposite of what guilty people would do.

I can't find any evidence that they mentioned sedation to the PJ, do you have a cite please?

k mccs book

It was  worth  a  shot,  at  least.  I asked  for  samples  of  my own hair to be taken as well simply  because  I  was fed  up  with  the  constant  insinuations  that  I  took tranquilizers, sleeping pills  or  any  medication,  for that  matter.

pity she didn't do the lie detector as well. then...............

if she wasn't on any medication at all ....who's were all the pills found in the second apartment ....

The polygraph is a fake science and in its present form is useless.

they say never judge a book by its cover .....

the book IMO was a cover .....to ...tidy up [as she thought ] ....all the things she needed to give innocent explanations for ...like it works on you ...as in ..why would she bring it up ....that was the whole point of the book ..it was in her words ...it was about her ...not maddie ..

all in her words ....just the same as the abduction ...her word only.....

The book was written as most books are, including Mr Amaral's, to make money.

The difference lies in that instead of profits going into the McCann bank account ... the profits went into the Madeleine Fund which was almost out of money.  The purpose of the fund is known to all.

It also ironed out some anomalies ... such as the PJ overlooking that it might be useful to have the twins tested.  Particularly as some substances dissipate at a different rate than others.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

I don't know if you have watched the real American crime programmes,  I don't mean CSI but actual real crimes where they have been trying to find the person who murdered someone,   in many of them they have given suspects a lie detector test and they have failed,  the police think the outcome is done and dusted only to find their DNA or other proof finds them wrong that the person is actually innocent and they go on to find who the actual murderer is.

I think it is too, Angelo.

I do think it 'works' ... but I believe there are occasions when it has been 'fooled'.

In any case, it is not recognised in the Portuguese courts nor British ones for that matter.

So too traumatised to tell Fiona to get help for the twins but not too traumatised to locate a number and phone her friends at home ? I see !

Fiona was telling her the twins were fine!!

If a child disappears from a family home is it best practice to immediately order drug tests on any remaining children? If not, then why should the Portuguese Police be expected to do it?

I think the ill feeling against this family is palpable.

Perfectly illustrated in the straw arguments why "they should have" taken immediate control of the crime scene and cordoned it off and "they should have" had the twins checked for drugs.

These are actions for the police ... not the victims of a crime to take ... and it must surely be unprecedented in any lawful society wherever the jurisdiction for the victims to take control of the investigation into the crime committed against them and their daughter.

I don't know how many times I've read posts saying that they were unable to think calmly because they were so traumatised, devastated, worried, frantic etc etc. It has been used as an excuse for their behaviour time after time.

You can't have your cake and eat it, they were either traumatised and non-functioning or able to separate themselves and react sensibly. Either way, they were 'very concerned' about the twins and still....did nothing.

We can't know how the McCann's were feeling as we have never been in their position.   Though I know when I lost one of my children for about twenty to thirty minutes  I was virtually on the verge of collapse,  when asked what she was wearing my mind went blank at first,   I have never felt so much terror in my life and haven't since.

So while we are speculating about what they should have done or said,  lets remember that the state of their minds would not have been normal,     shock for a start would really shake you up.   Friends of Gerry's said he would be talking one minute then collapse on the ground sobbing.

Kate did have worries about the twins,  whilst trying to cope with the horror of her child being missing,  she was probably acting on auto pilot,   knowing how to perform her acts as a Dr.  whilst worrying about Madeleine.

It's all very well to say Kate should have done this or that,  but who knows how we would behave under such circumstances.

They seem to think that they should have just found Madeleine missing,  dusted themselves down and behaved as if they were Forensic scientists.

When in the real world,  they behaved like any other parent would they dissolved in absolute despair.

Oh for goodness sake,   if a child disappears the first reactions would be complete meltdown unless you are not human.

Speculation about how the parents felt is meaningless. Taking her own words they were 'very concerned' about the twins, but they did nothing about it. The thread asks if the PJ should have arranged tests, but why? The PJ, according to a report in September 2007 by Chief Inspector Tavares de Almeida, only learned of her concerns when she spoke to Paiva;

Kate, through the PJ inspector that acted as 'liaison' with the family [NOTE: that is Ricardo Paiva], asked why samples weren't taken from the twins in order to test that hypothesis. She knew well enough at that time, more than 3 months later, that such exam would be inviable.

She went further and said that we ' the investigation ' should verify that the kidnapper had sedated Madeleine, to accomplish the action and he had also sedated the twins 'to consummate the act' however she didn't say that at the right moment.

Now now, let's not get exasperated. Were the PJ in meltdown? That's who I was talking about. Unless police always test remaining children for sedation why would the PJ test the twins?

the difference is ....kmccs bok was as i said ....in her words ...about herself...

G A book was wrote from the police files ....he was a detective

everything the mccs do ....is about money...............or involves money ...

i wouldn't even rule out them appearing one day ...on cbb or I'm a celebrity .....seeing the fund is getting so low ....and they are running out of options

most people are sick to the back teeth of them ....and there poor us ...attitude...

its ruined G A  life ...its ruined maddies life.............fact.......

don't happily do something ....and then blame everyone else when it goes wrong...

as for sedatives ....its a bit late ...3 month later ....to prove to everyone they wasn't drugged.

they care more about what people think .....than maddie or the twins safety ....

if they had have been drugged ....that night should have been the night for concern .....but obviously they wasn't .......but what is so obvious ...al they care about is themselves ...oh ...and the fund
