Jane Tanner never identified Murat as the man she saw at any time.

Her final words on Murat from her rog. statement:

4078    “You don’t feel it was the same person?”
Reply    “No, I don’t, no”.

That seems pretty definite to me.

Really?

Reply    “Erm well I think it’s when I’d done the, well I did the surveillance and then the next day after that, I think it came on Sky News about whether they were searching, what the MURAT’s house, so that’s Rachel sort of came running down at that point and sort of said, have you seen this blah, blah and at this point, nobody knew that I’d done the surveillance cos the Portuguese Police were very adamant that I shouldn’t tell anybody and I didn’t tell anybody for days actually, I didn’t even tell them then that it was actually, that I’d done it, I mean it was a couple of days afterwards.  So Rachel came down and sort of said, oh I saw him blah, blah, blah and then I think Russell, I can’t remember who else but then somebody else said oh they, they saw him and etc., so at that point it was, I rang Bob SMALL cos I’d got, I’d got his number from the day before for them and you know, they sort of, you know to say, oh is this, is this relevant and also I wanted to tell him that I’d seen him on the way to the doing the surveillance as well yeah just for that, so I think it’s just to make the point really that I think at that point, they didn’t know that Robert MURAT said he wasn’t there on the night”.
4078    “Right”.
Reply    “You know, or said yeah, had said that he wasn’t there on the night, so you know was immediately, I think it was immediately, I’m not trying to push anything onto Robert MURAT’s door, cos as I say I don’t think it was him that I saw”.
4078    “No”.
Reply    “But I just thought it was”.

Also, that question is not the same question as "Did you on the night you were in the van identify Murat as the man you saw?".

She was being asked in 2008 if the Murat was the same man she saw that night in the van, not if in 2008 she thought it was Murat (when it was clear Murat was not the man).

Her answer there is to a different question than "did you identify Murat in the van that night".

My quoted reponse from Tanner's Rog statement is specifcially in relation to the events of the night of the van operation.

You're trying to argue that black is white!  Tanner did not identify Murat.  As Benice has shown:

4078    “You don’t feel it was the same person?”
Reply    “No, I don’t, no”.

Nope.

She is being asked in 2008 if she does not feel it was the same person (then in 2008), when it was clear to everyone it wasn't Murat.

That's not the same question as being asked if she positively ID'd Murat on that night in 2007 in the van.

Her answer to the specifics of the van episode was to say

"But i just thought it was".

How can you "just think it was" the suspected abductor if you have given a definite NO in the surveillance operation?

You can only "just think it was him" if you said on that night that it was him and now (or then in 2008) think it wasn't.

Considering she was interviewed for 11 hours only the day before when she was a 'witness' and so was obliged by law to answer questions, one wonders why they didn't ask her many of the questions at that interview.
You still wonder why, Benice, or do you pretend it for the sake of your argument?

You are just twisting her words - or their meaning - to suit your agenda.  The simple fact is that she DID NOT identify Murat, no matter how much you might wish she had.

Please don't do this.  The Questions were asked many months after Madeleine disappeared, and were posed simply to implicate her parents.  There was not one single question that could have helped to find Madeleine.
And of course, if you had actually read The Questions, then you would know that Kate had already answered most of them on the previous day.
I can hardly believe that you are doing this, unless you believe that we are all half a shilling worth of six pence.  Or unless you think that this will add to the debate.  It won't for me because it doesn't even make sense. But then you know that.

Excuse me but the Portuguese cops had a job to do and that was to get to the truth.

Kate McCann chose to obstruct them out of a sense of 'self preservation'.  I agree on one thing though and that is that her refusal to cooperate with the police didn't help find Madeleine!!

So what was problem in answering them then?

The problem in answering them is that the PJ would then have asked more questions. you must know this method of wearing a suspect down. kate had already answered about 19 hrs of questions. I think her solicitor felt enough was enough and the only way to stop it was to stop answering questions . the PJ then had a choice, charge or release.

That poor guy Murat has had his life destroyed because those stupid bitches identified him as sneaking around the resort on the night Madeleine disappeared.  It was they who stuck him in it, not the cops.   Maybe it is they who should have been forced to.pay compensation to him for the damage they did.

Ms Tanner thought then (in 2007) it could be him, but one year later for reasons her rich English (they sort of, you know to say, oh is this, is this relevant and also I wanted to tell him that I’d seen him on the way to the doing the surveillance as well yeah just for that, so I think it’s just to make the point really that I think at that point) turns rather opaque, she thinks it was not. She changed her mind, why not ?

Tanner 'I rang Bob SMALL cos I’d got, I’d got his number from the day before for them and you know, they sort of, you know to say, oh is this, is this relevant'

Got his number for who ? To say what was relevant ?

Her friends weren't supposed to know about Tanner's contact with Bob Small so why, if it is them she is talking about, would they ask her specifically to get his number and what was being checked the day before to see if it was relevant ? Not Murat's presence surely because they had just revealed they had allegedly seen him ?

Do you believe Murat was there Angelo, and if not why did several members of the group lie ?

I'm glad you reckon this, Angelo. The fact he got a financial compensation by no way erases assertions stated without any doubt (except for Mr O'Brian).
I've never seen any kind of public apologies, have you ?

You've taken that comment out of context.  They were talking about the others seeing Murat on the 3rd and that comment was in relation to that conversation.

Jane's immediate comment before that was''I don't think it was him that I saw''.    So it makes no sense for her to contradict herself in the next sentence.

If the interviewing police officer thought that comment was Jane saying she thought Murat was the man she saw carrying away a child -  then the line of questioning immediately following would have reflected that - and in some depth too.   The fact that it didn't should tell you that you've drawn the wrong conclusions from the comment.

The only person who has claimed JT identified Murat as the abductor is Amaral - and that was a downright lie.

So can I get this straight then.   Is she saying that she just thought it was him but now thinks it isn't???   8-)(--)
